2024 Presidential Race

He wasn't told to retire, he accepted an appointment to the SGT Major Academy and was frocked to E-9 shortly before he decided to retire instead of deploying with his unit. They don't do that then say "hey man you gotta go" unless there was a major screwup on his part.
Don't know but I am sure it will come out. The article above stated one of the reasons was because he did not complete the coursework required to obtain the CSM rank. If he did not then I have no problem with it because the education requirement is mandatory with no exceptions. It applies to basically all ranks of service. More than likely he was temporarily promoted without federal recognition and when he failed to complete mandatory education he was put back to his previous rank and his old position not available and forced to retire. Perfectly plausible explanation. What Waltz failed to reveal to the public was the terms of his requirement to achieve CSM and that he did not meet the mandatory requirements to achieve that rank. old rank and no position to fill equals regulatory forced retirement.

No, that is not a plausible explanation because that is not what happened. He retired before he ever completed the course because his unit was on orders to deploy. He wasn't forced to retire, he chose to quit the SGTM course and retire.

Probably a 9mm. Don't speak of things you have no clue. No need to defend him if he had 24 years in service he was probably told to move on by higher ups. A good retirement for him and his record will speak for itself. May not be the right choice but for the Dems but they are stuck with him, regardless.
There are several posts in this forum that are so ill informed with assumptions and innuendos that makes just a place to go for entertainment purposes.
Field Artillery Branch of service is a tough place to serve but it is not called the "King of Battle" because it is easy. Being a citizen soldier is a whole new ball game in itself. Unless you have been there and done that you should be careful how you frame a person's career or choices when it comes to there service record.
Instead, several just spout off there opinion without knowing the facts. Fodder and politics.
He was a wanna be Soldier in the guard. He "retired" when they got orders to Iraq. He's a POS

It’s sad. If he was an E-9 it’s not like he’s going to be doing s*** except riding in a humvee while drawing a full check with hazard pay tacked on. As for his “weapon of war” claim I highly doubt he’s carried a rifle in a VERY long time. He is a POS and for a lot of reasons.

I'll play Devil's advocate. Most of Trump's pledges contradict each other.

For example, he talks about reducing regulations, then goes on to list several new regulations.

He talks about "state's choice" then goes on to federalize state's responsibilities.

He talks about lowering inflation but mentions large amounts of additional spending.

He mentioms uniting people and then several about tearing people apart.

Some are just talking points that he has no intention of fixing as evidenced by his first term

I know more about where Walz and Kamala stand than I do Trump. Walz and Kamala are tax and spend liberals....
I will say on this one his actions have proven to me that he is about state choice. Covid was a perfect time for him to grab power, push Federal influence, whatever he wanted and he didn’t. Like any politician, he will say about anything.

Oh definitely

And you are making a point about a weapon that never existed US arsenal which is a dumb argument when there are more important issues to discuss. Discredit him all you want but look at the comments calling him a deserter and traitor which are totally out of bounds without knowing the circumstances. The AR15 comments are just a sidebar to the him and have no value.
You’re still trying to paint this as a critique of his service. It’s not - no matter how badly you want to frame it as such.

I never called him a traitor or deserter. Neither did InVol or Hog.

He implied he carried an AR15, a “weapon of war”… “into combat” - which is wrong on multiple fronts.

He probably carried a 9mm that he barely qualified with and hasn’t actually shot in years.

he fought with Kemp, governor of GA, about opening to early, before Trump could have his big look at me: "I" am the one opening up the country moment.

he side stepped responsibility on Covid, and punted to Fauci. He HAD to know that was going to lead to massive Federal grabs. just because Trump wasn't the one pushing it vocally, he was responsible for what all happened.

he drastically increased spending during Covid, fast tracked the vaccines, giving their companies a blank check, and legal immunity to do whatever they want. Operation Warp Speed and the resulting crappy vaccines were absolutely Trump matters, pushing federal influence.

Covid was 100% the low part of Trump's policy in office.

The Minnesota governor was a 31-year-old schoolteacher and football coach serving with the National Guard in Alliance, Nebraska when he was chased down by a State patrol officer and charged for driving at a whopping 96mph in a 55mph zone.

The spending I agree on for sure and maybe he said stuff about GA but he didn’t force anything there like Biden tried with his vaccine mandate. I certainly don’t hold Covid as a high point for Trump except for the fact he did leave states to handle it how they saw fit. That’s about the only thing he did well during that time though.

Media Cooks Up Fresh Propaganda Word To Gloss Over Walz’s Left-Wing Record

Kamala Harris is bold. She’s historic. She’s cool and fun, so the media says. And she needs a down-to-earth, all-American Midwestern dad to keep her centered. Sigh, this is really what they’re running with: are you ready to hear how “folksy” Tim Walz is for the next 90 days?

It’s a shocking level of coordination, even for our toady class of journos. NPR, Newsweek and the Wall Street Journal went with “folksy demeanor.” The New York Times switched it up to “folksy persona.” Bloomberg and Barron’s ran with “folksy appeal.” ABC came out of left field with “folksy mannerisms.”

Seriously, a memo must have gone out. The memes, of course, started right away as well — hammering home the idea that Walz is just your neighborly dad who loves dogs and hunting, can change your oil and occasionally embarrasses his daughter. Nevermind that Minnesota fell to BLM, Antifa and COVID tyranny under his watch.

Yeah, the spin is heavy. Politico is going with “midwestern charm”. The msm is desperately trying to label him in this way to camouflage his hard left ideals. Granted, they will have more than a few takers that don’t pay attention.

I really don't care but this how the system works in the NG, say what you want but it is what it is. If there was No slot to fill and he would have been forced to move to another unit if position for E8 not available. Another option would have been retirement. I really don't care but that would be an explanation that does not fit your scenario. You are correct he chose not to complete the course so be it. His choice cost him a promotion and finished his career. Pretty simple.

MSNBC’s Charlie Sykes said on Wednesday that voters will not criticize Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s far-left policy record because he “reads moderate” and “talks like a regular person.”
