If Dec is accurate, he probably knew. I also don’t think he “retired”.

With all that said, I don’t care that he left with knowledge of an upcoming deployment. But he should be honest about the situation and is obviously not.

There are multiple notices (orders) prior to a deployment. At that time NG units were getting mobilization warning orders 12-18 months in advance, then they would get their activation orders then their actual deployment orders. So in short they generally knew about a year in advance of even being activated let alone being deployed.
