Deaths from a military operation in Afghanistan. If we had pulled out those people would not have died in afg. Then the number of deaths from those who returned home is also a huge cost. Not bringing them home needlessly cost many lives for 2 decades

Agree. We should have been out of there a long time ago. IMO, we are 35 trillion in debt and we need to take care of us first...

Rational people can agree or disagree whether we should have been there providing military support to the Afghan govt we helped install. I think everyone agrees the withdrawal was an absolute clusterF....

Are you a partisan hack? Is that why you're so upset? I'm not even sure that rises to the level of a direct insult around here. You don't appear so soft when things like that are levied at those you would disagree with. Why is that?

Yes it was a mess but so was ever believing the afg people understood the western concept of country. Should have leveled anything resembling a support structure (in any country), killed obl in late 2001 and left. Anything else was bound to fail

A third of those deaths under Trump were non combat deaths (i.e. heart attack, suicide etc).

Second, there is a difference in combat deaths in carrying out a military mission and deaths from a botched withdrawal due to administrative incompetence....

a withdrawal is a military action.

and Trump's failure to act indirectly lead to those 13 dying. If the assumption is that Trump was capable enough to get those 13 out safely, he should have done so. Failure to do so, was a failure on him. no two ways about it. especially as it was apparently Trump's plan the whole time to get the boys out.

and being in Afghanistan, in a no win, thankless position more than likely contributed to those non-combat deaths. if anything those were even more regrettable as there is no one else to blame to but those in charge. unless the ghost of Osama Bin Laden was going around it wasn't Al Qaida going around and scaring our boys into a heart attack.

If by “pointed out” you mean “made up,” then sure. The idea that everyone right of Kamala is viewed like Ron DeSantis, and therefore that everything said about MAGA is also applied to non-MAGA conservatives, is the foundation of most of what you’re saying and is baseless.

Hell, even “MAGA is destroying this country” or “MAGA is coming for your children” is uttered far less than it is about “the left,” probably because the right is more likely to view the country as “destroyed” in the first place. People do plenty of Chicken Littling about Trump installing himself as dictator or whatever but that’s a Trump/MAGA thing, not “conservatives”

its not baseless in the slightest. I have been called MAGA, several other non-Trumpers have been called MAGA for expressing right leaning preferences on this forum. I can't speak for anyone else, but it happens in the real world too. just because you don't experience it doesn't mean its not out there, and relevant enough to have an impact on my life.

maybe those exact words are uttered less, but the rhetoric around the whole thing is just as bad. again wanting people to lose jobs, children, or to be reeducated because of a political difference may not be literally saying "destroying the country", but its pretty dang clear that anti-left thinking isn't very tolerated.

Luther and others have noted multiple times, very loudly, that they will do whatever, support whatever it takes to get rid of Trump. that is not a normal, oh we just disagree on the china placement. that is deep seeded hate. before the assassination attempt the language coming from the left was aggressive and leaning towards violence, that is not representative of a slight disagreement, but more indicative that you think the subject is a major threat.

how about all the calls about "threats to democracy" about those on the right? again you want to dismiss it simply because it covers Trump, but in reality you are covering more of the general right than you would ever hit with a focused "MAGA" push.

you are just attempting to define the problem into such a way there is no wiggle room to argue against it while supporting your own stance with extreme generalities.
