2024 Presidential Race

I have my CPA itemize all kinds of deductions, how is that subsidizing you?

Pretty much every major item on Schedule A is a subsidy in some form. A renter should not subsidize a homeowner (home interest), a red state resident should not subsidize high tax blue state (SALT), an atheist shouldnt subsidize a tither (charity).

Other examples A person who can pull out shouldnt subsidize someone who cant (Child tax credits) A person who saved money and worked way through school shouldnt subsidize Medieval English majors (student loan)

It should be income * lower flatter rate

Taxes should be used for revenue, not policy like the founding fathers intended

how is it a gov't subsidy when people will buy generators with their own money?
I’m just going to post this here.

What Is a Subsidy?

A subsidy is a benefit given to an individual, business, or institution, usually by the government. It can be direct (such as cash payments) or indirect (such as tax breaks). The subsidy is typically given to remove some type of burden, and it is often considered to be in the overall interest of the public, given to promote a social good or an economic policy.

subsidizing them would be the gov't taxing money away from John and then give the taxed money to Tom so Tom can buy a generator using John's money. People will buy a generator with their OWN money and write if off, no money is taxed away(stolen) from one person then given to another person.
Wrong.

It's alright for them to pay off your student loan though.

Embarrassingly I still owe on my student loan. I spent some early years putting it off with forbearance then I made minimum payments. Then I went back for a post grad education. To make a long story short, I made a large payment a couple years ago to knock a dent in it. A lot of the payment was considered interest because it was a capitalized portion. The IRS sets a cap of $2500 student loan interest you can claim. Then you only get a small % of that in actual tax savings. It's a rip off or better said a pathetic tax credit.

Rant:

The govt got in business of subsidizing student loans and allowing tax writeoffs. Look what happened there.

The govt got in the business of subsidizing health care through pretax treatment. Look what happened there.

The price of solar panels magically go up and down depending on the tax credits. Magically, the price of solar panels goes up 25-30% every time the tax credit is raised from 0% to 30%. The price magically decreased 20-30% when the credit is reduced from 30% to 0%

Ok, Im done

tax deductions are indirect subsidies that do not affect you personally as direct subsidies.

The US needs to get rid of the current tax code and everyone pay a flat tax (say 6%) and no one takes any deductions.

The same thing they’ve done to the cost of an education with the loan programs.

Yes, he did (or Congress did - Much of Biden's subsidized relief was just implementing laws Congress had passed).
I think Biden misused/abused emergency laws Congress passed for COVID (heroes act Sept 11) to forgive student loans for political gain.

Same with the lottery scholarship. Every increase in the lottery scholarship, a corresponding increase in tuition.

I know this is probably a dumb question, but I think I read that it's highly likely that Republicans take control of the Senate. If Trump wins, does that mean Republicans will control all 3 branches? When was the last time that happened?

A lot of the swing congressional district polling makes it look like there will be a divided Congress.

But polling is flawed and there are so few competitive congressional districts that dumptruck loads of money will be wasted on about 3 dozen districts while everywhere else is ignored unless it is in a swing state.

1st Amendment:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Misinformation? Hillary should we start with the press?

Bonus: I don't think the bitter wretched woman has the influence she used to.
