Same old tired ideas that brought us to this mess we are in today. He wants to double down and then blame those that oppose those ideas for why the ideas didn’t work in the first place. examples to consider:
Hillary (to spin Bill's oval office trysts) referenced a "vast right wing conspiracy" and that became a badge of honor.
Hillary "deplorables". Same...we still reference this one.
Obama 'bitter clinges'.

So, objectively, it isn't a Trump unique circumstance. There were many instances of D candidates / politicians insulting the right and the right turned it on its head as a moniker of affection.
