2024 Presidential Race

My family and I have stopped investing, tithing, saving, etc. we essentially live off of the minimal amount of money that we can, and we send the rest to the US treasury. We write a big check every month.

Because they know best! They will spend it wisely. šŸ˜‰

Youā€™re doing it wrong. You need to follow the luther method, he loves an increase In taxes but wonā€™t pay a dime more unless everyone else has to.

I am not in favor of that and did not advocate for it.

On the other hand, the system is rigged in favor of the ultra-wealthy getting wealthier. And they manipulate government to keep it that way. It is not sustainable.
define 'ultra wealthy'.

Oh, and Trump's net wealth went up because you braniacs kicked him off Twitter so he went and started his own media outlet.

Good grief the the comments on Reddit right now are in epic meltdown mode. And many of the hardcore leftists on there are clueless as to why they lost the election. They really think they need to run someone even more ultra left to win. It's pretty funny
I sometimes hop onto the local subreddits for where I live to see any kinds of local news.

The Northern Virginia one has been hilarious. There was one super hilarious post before the election where the entire reddit braintrust there couldn't figure out why the big Vietnamese immigrant population there would ever support a right wing candidate in any election. They then started in on the calling everyone racist, minsogynst, etc. trope, as predicted, and they're still going on about "organizing" or "providing emotional support".

Them, the pundits, their whole media. None of them understand and none of them want to understand. They want to double down. It's glorious.

Who says only the ultra-wealthy are getting wealthier?

My investments soared over the last few days. Big, big numbers.

I am now well positioned to enjoy soon-to-be overpriced strawberries and oranges.

Imagine have to cope this hard with an election. Even if Kamala won, I would've carried on with my day like whatever

What a bunch of p******s we have out there that are supposed to be educating instead of brainwashing and trying to shape students minds. Tuesday was a big FY to them too.

In time, it breeds resentment. And when the next big downturn occurs -- and it is inevitable that it will just by the nature of things-- you'll have hundreds of millions of people learning that maybe a few hundred have extraordinary wealth, which breeds natural resentment.

Consider this. In one 24 hour period ten people made $65 billion. That could have made 65,000 people millionaires, for life.
that's not a problem OF the rich.

you are punishing the rich, because other people might/will get angry with them. that is terrible logic.

unless you can show how they are doing something wrong, you aren't really going to have an argument. you would need something like the Gamestop stonks situation to show the rich are doing something wrong here worthy of government intervention.

I know the income gap shrunk during Trump's first term; I believe the wealth gap did as well. Real incomes rose faster for lower and middle class across the board and in particular for minorities. Those all reversed over the last 4 years.

Everyone saw that in their real lives too, which is apparent in the vote. And Kamala overwhelmingly dominated the vote among the wealthy.

Champaign Socialists will always vote for their buddies because it helps them consolidate power and lie about it.

No, I did not say that either. What I actually AM saying is that our system allows the ultra wealthy to influence how they are treated by that very system. The tax code is built to carve out advantages for certain people.

Starting to sound like a Libertarian.

How about a flat tax? Largely solves the carve out issues.

Better yet, how about fighting for smaller Federal involvement overall - less power for the Federal government, less opportunities for special interests to take an extra piece.

We should seize that $65B under a windfall provision of some sort.

Then we could distribute it to the 65,000 other citizens - and everyone would be happy, secure, and productive.

"Everyone" is happy so long as the proposer of the idea is part of the 65,000 because eff everyone else.
