I think it could if not regulated end up making just a few schools dominant who have the backing of people willing to pay the big money. Exactly how you would regulate it is the big question. A player is able to get all they can get and if there are companies willing to pay even if they are shell companies of boosters no way to stop it unless you could prove something illegal. I think it is legal for anyone to give a player any amount of money for an autograph or any other item if they so desire. NIL really made college players into individuals and based on your amount of talent or even perceived future talent you can get millions. Tennessee is putting more into men's basketball and football than the women's game. I figure every player on the women's team is getting close the 25k just like SC and others. Where the problem comes in for Tennessee is how much they can give or are willing to give for perceived talent of a recruit. Some schools are going in big like LSU and a few others. Were doing it mostly in football.NIL unless strictly regulated is the death of college athletics...
Some of us do know why certain ones aren't coming here.Well no one wants to admit that because nobody really knows. Until a recruit comes out and says, “I went to xxxx, because they promised me more NIL deals”….no one knows why we aren’t getting top players, we just know that we’re not and eventually it’s going to be a problem. We aren’t going to win the portal EVERY year, I pray to God we do, otherwise, after 2024-2025, we’re cooked!
We do if you have been here and done well, ie Rickea.I actually think Tennessee has pretty strong connections and opportunities in NIL for their female athletes. Some of the NIL deals that Rickea, Tamari, and other female athletes at TN are involved in are cool and quality deals.
Recruiting is what it is. Talaysia Cooper, Destinee Wells, Jewel Spear, and Avery Strickland probably had just as many or even more offers out of the portal than they did out of HS. I wouldn’t give not one of these potential stars back for any other signee. Destinee Wells is an outstanding basketball player. She will make a name for herself in the SEC.
Spear was not only being heavily recruited by coaches but some big name players at some other major programs once she hit the portal.
Talaysia Cooper is a future star in the making. She had many suitors coming out of HS and when she hit the portal. She just didn’t bring a lot of attention to her recruiting process. And if you play attention to the HS recruiting front a lot of the incoming/upcoming HS prospects want to play with a player like T.Coop. I believe that the 2024 HS class will include 3 signees. It’ll be a good class. I can’t wait to see who the future LVs will be.
I relish to continue seeing the way TN has absolutely dominated the portal in addition to locking in some future highly skilled (no matter where they are ranked) HS recruits!
Were to a high percentage sure we lost Del Rosario because of NIL. I don't know about Booker who visited six times, but went to Texas. We will neve know what is happening, but it does seem when a player is really close to signing with Tennessee someone suddenly gets them instead. The phone call on the plane seems a little suspicious to me still. Some say were is fairly good shape with Ngeumen, but will something again happen to stop her from coming here. I'll just say without any NIL involved Del Rosario was coming here. She was going to get NIL deals here just not guaranteed like supposedly they were at the other school.Well no one wants to admit that because nobody really knows. She and Velez were coming here. Then Berry is a whole different story but NIL was Def part of it.Were to a high percentage sure we lost Del Rosario because of NIL. One more guard will probably be it for this class so who will it be? We have Wells, Sears, Wynn, Strickland, Darby, Cooper, and Boyd already for 2024 so I expect the next guard will be the final one.Mikayla Blakes is a real good hooper out of Rutgers Prep and she should be visiting here for an official. She would be an excellent guard to add. Seen her play a few times on the AAU circuit. She was at IU over the weekend.
To be honest Blakes is already better then Wynn , Strickland and Darby , so I’d take her and call it a day when it comes to guards for 2024.One more guard will probably be it for this class so who will it be? What about athletes who don't perform up to expectations. Can the school sue them? Or companies? Can NIL be taken from an athlete?? Can the athlete then sue the school or the company?? Are the NIL yearly renewed??? To much mess for college athletics..I think it could if not regulated end up making just a few schools dominant who have the backing of people willing to pay the big money. NIL is typically year to year and in theory, the athletes should be doing something in return for the deal, ie ads, camps, gear sold, appearances, etc. What about athletes who don't perform up to expectations. One other note, the school should not be involved in the NIL deals if they are following ncaa rules and regs. What about athletes who don't perform up to expectations. Can the school sue them? Same. It's fine for NIL to be part of the equation but HS recruiting in large part has become pay for play which was never the intent of NIL.IMHO, any kid who comes to the University only because of NIL opportunities is someone I do not want on my team. They are not coming because of dedication to the University, or dedication to their teammates, but dedicated to the almighty dollar. If they achieve NIL opportunities based on their play at the school, great, but relying on the hope of getting them as the sole reason of coming, and not the greatness of the school or coaching staff is troubling to me. I would want players that want to come based on everything besides money, like the good old days. I guess I'm a purist and becoming out of touch, but that's the way I feel.

ConsiderExactly. NIL is a corrupt joke. There should be NO NIL deals until a player has been enrolled at a college/university and playing for a year, IMO. This notion that schools should engage in a bidding process for prospects is corrupt nonsense. And any individuals or businesses who put up money for NIL are fools--they're just wasting money.
