2024 Recruiting Thread

When I saw her play, which admittedly was not much, she did not seem very athletic, and she was not very active and aggressive on the court. In fact, I would describe her as rather passive. That's not a good way to play basketball--or any sport. I think hanging around the 3-point line and taking threes is her only strength. She just looked very overrated, which would explain why she played very little. And, unfortunately, she really the only top prospect we've signed out of high school in, what, four or five years.
That's made it here anyways. We have a couple of top recruits coming...

She needs huge gains in physical strength. She doesn't have the dribbling and defensive skills to guard or play on the perimeter lack of foot speed. She might turn into a valuable player with about thirty pounds of muscle as a stretch four. She can shoot the three really well although she never found a rhythm with us.

She lacked a certain toughness that I expected her to have. Someone above said "too passive" and that's exactly right. Too passive, lack of toughness.

If I were Vandy's coaches, I would have here watching Brink film non-stop, because she has the measurables but not the mindset up to this point.

Agree not a problem if neither signs as certainly have Kaiya, Jewell, Destinee, Ace, Edie, and Tess all more than likely returning and the addition of Boyd. Would be nice to get both of them in that 2024 class since we definitely lose big after the 2024 season.
Actually 10-of the 12 eligible to play this year have eligibility left to play. Tamari to me is the only question mark, but I actually believe she will return to get the most education she can get and would be the face of the program if she does.

She got a lesson in life a year ago that no one should have to go through and most likely realizes that basketball can be taken away at any time. The more education you can get, especially for free, the better equipped one is to Adult. The extra NIL opportunities probably would hurt either

Or playing for a coach that might actually work with her.
Justine is going to probably play the three-four for Vanderbilt, the same position she basically played for Tennessee and when Tennessee plays vandy, Rickea Jackson's going to take her to task just the way she played in front of her last year as well as multiple other players with college experience playing for the Lady Vols. Justine was a skinny scraggly freshman. She needed a year to build strength, figure out how to play defense, and learn how to rebound at this level. She saw her friends at schools that had horrible basketball programs getting to play more and felt she was entitled to that too. Her immaturity showed and she made her decision.

Isn't Shay Ralph going into her third season at Vanderbilt? If she's working with those players over there they sure haven't shown a ton of improvement because they sit near the bottom of the league and picked to finish there again this year. Wasn't it everybody on here saying year four is the Make it or break it year? If that's the case she's got a lot of work to do over the next year. Vanderbilt used to have a great teams under great coaches i e Melanie B
alcom and Jim Foster. They've just been running to the ground with the last two coaches they put in place over there.

“Her immaturity showed and she made her decision.”

Same energy for the portal players we took? What was their immaturity issues?

Are you including almost all of the posters on this forum ?
We all had high hopes for her.

No, of course not. Fans here assumed she'd be good because she was a 5-star--an assumption fans everywhere would make
about a highly ranked players. But there are always players who turn out to be overrated or have games that work well at high school/club level
but don't work too well at the major-college level. It happens a lot.

You need to block or ignore Turbo Vol. Nothing is ever good enough and He slams Kellie relentlessly. Honestly I sometimes wonder whether Turbo Vol is even a Tennessee fan.

I'll try to be more optimistic--but only for you, Lucy. I hate the idea of upsetting you. I don't "slam Kellie relentlessly." I point out that in 5 years she has done little to improve the program. If you want to pretend otherwise, then we'll have to agree to disagree.

I will agree to disagree with you also Turbo. I consider the program to be much better now than it was under Holly. I love Holly, but she did not have a handle on the culture of the program. Kellie has reestablished that, and players who want to play for an honest coach who will not make empty promises are interested in Tennessee. I believe mature players especially realize this and why Tennessee has much success with the transfer portal. We need to get over the hump this year and make it to the elite 8. That should help us with the high school recruiting. We need no major injuries and a little blessing from the basketball gods this season, but we've got the players to make that happen.

Surely you jest…. With over 3000 post ? Surely you saw what was happening after Pat died and Kellie showed up?

Pure torture to watch the games with no fundamentals or sense of how the game of basketball was to be played! I had to scream at the television so loud and long that the wife went shopping and my dog was whining under my bed … It’s been enjoyable ever sense Kellie got here …. Not perfect but at least it looks like a basketball game is on and one can relax and enjoy watching the lady Vols again ! As usual…. Just My Opinion

If you can't see the program has improved, you not looking...
