2024 Recruiting Thread

You made some valid points.
Tennessee has dominated the portal. Absolutely dominated it for proven Power 5 SEC talent and elite frontcourt players.
Alexus Dye a dbl-dbl machine, the LVs best rebounder in the past 3 years, and starting PF (All-SEC tourney selection) in one year.
Jillian Hollingshead former McD All-American and USA 3x3 U21 selection.
Rickea Jackson AmeriCup tourney team, All-SEC selection, preseason All-American selection, projected lottery pick.
Keyen Green elite rebounder, high motor SEC talent who played multiple seasons before a season ending injury.
Due to injury, elite athlete Jazmine Franklin was still recovering while trying to transition to another program.

I have absolute confidence in this staff finding another elite post player via the portal if necessary. The track record is outstanding overall. This offseason there was not a need for a post addition. #4 elite guard Jewel Spear and #15 elite guard Destinee Wells spearheaded this year’s Top 10 portal recruiting class.

You make good, optimistic points, but I'd still have liked to see a true center prospect to back up/rest Tamari this year while learning the ropes. Think about SC's situation last year and how they are much better prepared to weather the loss of Boston than if they were breaking in an inexperienced center.

Don't forget Talaysia Cooper! She won't be eligible to play until next year, but she is for sure the real deal!!

You’re right, and I’ve talked about her being an excellent pick-up but didn’t mention her in this case since she will redshirt in 2023-2024.

I also believe Avery Strickland, another portal addition will be a very solid addition to this year’s roster.
I watched Ace’s film and she gained quality experience in the ACC at Pitt while playing about as well as most freshmen in any Power 5 conference in her minutes as a starter in multiple games.

We def need a young post to back up/rest Jill/Karo next year before they both graduate. After them, the post cupboard is bare. It can come fm portal or hs, but we need a post. Bad.

The team roster in this era will change every year. Bringing in a player from HS or the portal is fluid.
Tennessee has 13 players heading into the 2023-2024 with one redshirting this season.
For the next recruiting class, nobody knows what it will look like at this point. I’m almost certain there will be options available to fill any needs for next season’s roster.
Tennessee has dominated the portal and one of the best signings prior to P5 signees such as Rickea, Jillian, Jewel, T.Coop, and Ace was Alexus Dye.
Dye was a dbl dbl machine and was outstanding in one year.
Just as people underestimated Alexus Dye, to a lesser degree they have done the same to Destinee Wells. Once the season starts, it wouldn’t surprise me if Destinee Wells leads the team in scoring in multiple games this season. Some people can “flip” a switch when the ball starts bouncing. I read where over the final stretch of the season I believe it was (5) games that Wells averaged over 30 points a game.
Wells has the “it” factor. An absolute bucket getter and floor general.

Thank you, Mama Wells.

Heckel and Blakes give us a really good class and were set on the perimeter for years to come. Not sure were going to get either one of them, but all that we have left. We have to be looking portal, JC and foreign for post players at the end of the season.
1 of 2 would even be great. We are in pretty good shape at guard even if it's just Boyd. Anything else from the guard position is icing on the cake.

Exactly. we should be treating her as that. She can also play multiple positions. I'm really excited to see how we use Cooper in the future.
I'm super excited about Talaysia & that she has 3 years of eligibility in orange! She will help this team be much more versatile. People are critical of Kellie and hs recruiting, but getting maturity and experience from the transfer portal is so valuable. If people don't believe that, they will be convinced soon.

Agree not a problem if neither signs as certainly have Kaiya, Jewell, Destinee, Ace, Edie, and Tess all more than likely returning and the addition of Boyd. Would be nice to get both of them in that 2024 class since we definitely lose big after the 2024 season.

Here’s something I want to truly know about our society… why is it always someone else fault?
This stuff is pure nonsense.
Tennessee has had several players make great improvements over the years. Both young and veteran players.
The main setback has been injuries. The past three years this team has suffered key injuries.
Due to injuries, last season every player on a 16 player roster got a chance to play during the season to earn more minutes.
If a player didn’t perform when they received their opportunity then first look at what YOU could’ve done differently not make excuses or point the finger in the opposite direction.

Why do we even talk on here so much about pissott? Let her be. Maybe it just wasn't a fit

And what makes it comical is certain people run with this stuff and make nothing into something.
I wish these players well.
If they have success here or somewhere else it’s part of collegiate sports.
There’s no such thing as a perfect scenario. There’s no need to speculate.
Just don’t make it a habit to always make other people out to be the scapegoat.

She didn't give it a chance to see if she was a fit. She was well down the bench evidently thought she should be starting against players better than her. When she got her chance in games she could not guard anyone and that is why she got so many limited opportunities.

Or playing for a coach that might actually work with her.
Work with her how? She was well down the bench and got some playing opportunities and didn't perform very well. I am sure she will get more time with a losing team like Vandy nothing for them to lose by playing her. It will be different than when you are trying to win or have players that you think you can win with. She eliminated her own playing time with how she played when she got the chance.

When I saw her play, which admittedly was not much, she did not seem very athletic, and she was not very active and aggressive on the court. In fact, I would describe her as rather passive. That's not a good way to play basketball--or any sport. I think hanging around the 3-point line and taking threes is her only strength. She just looked very overrated, which would explain why she played very little. And, unfortunately, she really the only top prospect we've signed out of high school in, what, four or five years.
