And how is there questions with every guard?
Folks on here in the past has pushed for TN to sign every single HS guard ranked in the Top 50.

Well Jewel Spear is a 2x Team USA player, former ACC leading scorer, and three year starter, and in her first year at TN there are zero questions about Spear.

Kaiya Wynn is a junior former 4-star recruit and has developed into a SEC caliber 2-way guard. There are no questions about Wynn.

Talaysia Cooper is redshirting as a former 5-star McD All-American and learning a system for a year. If you think that doesn’t help then it’s your opinion.

Kaniya Boyd we don’t even know what her injury was. I saw her on the sideline with her HS team in December and she had no brace or crutches. Same as in TN her first week with the team. Stop exaggerating and saying a player you don’t even know what injury she suffered has a “bad wheel” that’s nonsense. She could’ve already had plans to enroll early at TN. She could’ve had an injury that didn’t require surgery. There’s no questions about Kaniya Boyd.
Just let it be.

You say that every year.. Tennessee roster has 11 former 4-star/5-star players.
The only thing they need is to stay health.

Most of the players you all be talking about can’t even win or aren’t winning more than the roster Tennessee has right now despite the multiple injuries to start this season.

I would hate it if this team relied on consultation from some of the “know it all” posters on this forum to put together a roster. Team wouldn’t even get to 10 wins it would be so dysfunctional.

You don’t have to get all upset about players having questions in my mind about there playing at UT.

Wells has an injury …. Will it affect her play ?
Spears is she definitely coming back ?
Wynn has never started?
Cooper has not played one minute yet?
Boyd as you have admitted (we don’t know)?
Ace … I’m not sure about her either?


This is why I have some questions about our guards ? And the main reason I mentioned our guards having questions is I commented on a post about someone not wanting us to take another guard in 2024 ! A top 10 guard

You need to chill out …. You have a right to spread all of the accolades on these kids if you want but I have a right to have my own questions that they will be good players next year ? I have a few questions! Just my opinion. I’m sure you have your opinion. And we know all about people and their opinions! We all have one .

And they're all guards, and every player committed beyond that is a guard. That was my original point about Blakes. Who I'd never say they shouldn't sign if they can. It's just that spotty recruiting has led to an alarming roster imbalance, both by position and by class.

We HAVE to get some posts and/or forwards out of the portal this spring.

I guess if Tamari decides to use that other year and you have Jill, Karoline, and Sarah coming back you need to go for post players that have more than one year to play. I would go for two as your certainly losing four and if Tamari is leaving three.

Exactly what I've been saying. After next season, there are ZERO non guards with eligibility. And several classes have gaping holes in them. No freshman this year. So far next yr we have Boyd as only frosh, Cooper as only soph (3 yrs elig), Edie and Strickland as jrs. All guards. Rest of the roster, (Key, Strip, Jill, Puckett, Wynn, Tess and Jewel) will be seniors. The one coming in 25, Brooks, is a good one, but she's another guard. Somewhere out there in the future is that child named Findley Chastin. Another good one, but guess what? A guard.

This roster imbalance is probably our worst looming problem IMO. We'll be depending on the portal to balance both position and class. While portal recruiting has been good, if they don't absolutely hit it out of the park this spring both by position and class, we are in deep trouble.

I'm afraid this terrible roster management has put us back in the place where we're going to have to take whatever youngish posts or power forwards will give us the time of day.

I think Kellie got off to a terrible situation at Tennessee . She got hired with only a couple of months to recruit for her 1st year…. Then COVID in her second year ! These first two years of recruitment are still playing and till she can start getting better recruits she will still be fighting for wins which everyone knows will bring better recruits! I believe she is coming along mainly due to the portal. Rickea, Jewell , Wells , and soon with Cooper and her 1st high school (Boyd) already on campus… I know Pissott was left off because she is a whole other discussion! But future high recruits are lining up and the portal has been our saving grace. If she can pull out a decent season this year ? And avoid more injuries and not get fired ? A lot of if’s but if they replace her…. Then we start over again with all of her verbals free to go elsewhere. A lot of members here are demanding better than sweet 16 finishes but I’m good with being a top 16 team until she can get MORE BETTER PLAYERS, Then become a top 10 team …. Just My Opinion

I think everyone w elig comes back next year, Key being the possible exception but I think she probably will. Tess likely to return, IMO, unless she sees continued diminishing role with so many guards and decides to go be great in her career. Destinee def comes back and I think Jewel also. W scouts say Jewel is lowkey on their radar if she comes back and polishes up some things. She'll be back.

I agree, they need to grab up all the best posts they can get this spring. Another Rickea would be most welcome, lol, but not holding my breath.

For a change some actual players that want to play in the post. Jill doesn't like playing in there so we could move her to four. Sarah evidently is not comfortable in there as she came to life playing the three at Miss St and her rebounding did not suffer. Karoline likes to play in there has limitations as a defender. So yes we need three from the portal. A lot of posters say go get Wolfenbarger, but she like the perimeter as well.

It's all in a vicious cycle now. Can't win championships wo better players, can't get better players wo at least competing for championships. What unfolds the rest of the season will be crucial to portal recruiting this spring, which in turn is vital to any hope next yr and beyond. We're in a very tough position.

I agree and have said KJH has had very bad, terrible luck since she got here. Not her fault, but luck always plays in to sports success. She hasn't had much.

Portal and 2025 class is our destiny for the future. All players need to be really good for us to hopefully move way up from where we are. Brooks is going to be a star player. Cooper is an athlete see how she develops her basketball skills. I think Boyd will be a very good player. Were going to need a lot of help hopefully the portal and 2025 have that help.

First off, schools in football are having players stay up to 6 years and in one case a ranked ACC team has a player coming back for year 9.
Until you all can comprehend that the transfer portal is equivalent to high school recruiting in the minds of coaches, donors, players, athletic directors you will be stuck on this forum talking about fairy tales.

Tennessee percentages of getting Jewel Spear, Tamari Key, and Destinee Wells to take the 5th or COVID year is likely 75% or higher for each player.
Secondly, the four juniors on the roster have all contributed to this program and despite how you feel about them with each of them having their moments can each stay for atleast two more seasons if they decide to.

The sophomores in Avery and Talaysia both can fill bigger roles next season. The freshman Kaniya Boyd is very skilled and poised for her age as a basketball player. Getting here early is a plus in her development.


Tennessee odds to return those core players top to bottom are very high.

Tennessee does not need a roster overhaul. They will add 2 to 3 more players and that roster will receive a Top 25 ranking in the preseason because what is said on this forum is not reality about next year or the future.

Kellie has put the work in evidently the NIL money is not there. Cause we lost Del Rosario I am sure over NIL. Feel we lost Booker for the same reason. NIL is going to need to be the part of it with pre arranged deals. If we can make pre arranged deals for mens football and basketball players we shoulld do the same for a couple of the elite basketball players.

Please try to keep up. Players who are true Srs this yr (Tess, Jewel, and Wells) are the last w a covid option. TK has a med redshirt option. The rest, Puckett, Strip, Wynn, Jill, the four true jrs, do not have covid options therefore have next yr only.

So back to my original point - every non guard player on the roster will end their elig next yr with no option. We have to get some solid young posts and wings out the portal or we are in real trouble.

BTW the football player coming back for his 9th yr had season ending injuries before the season started 4 straight yrs! I don't think that's exactly a model we want to count on.

The juniors can't stay they only have one more season. They do not get a covid season. Only Jewell, Tess, Destinee might have two medical redshirt, and Tamari medical redshirt were in the covid equation.
