2024 Recruiting Thread

I don't think everyone who doesn't enjoy WNBA games is a basher. In fact I know it, bc I'm one of them. Obviously I love the LVs and love college basketball, always have. But for reasons I don't understand myself, I can't sit thru a WNBA game on TV. If former LVs are involved I'll give it a try, but am usually channel surfing after a few minutes. I feel exactly the same about NBA games. Don't know why.
This is fair , most regular season games if watching on TV can get a bit dry with 1 on 1 ball . Playoffs are a whole different ball game. I enjoy going in person to regular season games versus watching them on TV although i do both.

Yeah, it's tough for me to enage with WNBA content; their marketing absolutely does not connect with me. I often feel like I hear what people want it to be, rather than what it actually is. It's just a miss for me. And whether it's fair or not, the size and scope of women's college basketball feels larger in college than it does in the WNBA.

The NBA, at least, it's got it's own history and audience, but these days when I turn on an NBA game and see every other player taking three steps on a layup, or teams not being able to play defense, I just start swearing and cut the games off. It's no longer a sport. It's a marketing vehicle for a lifestyle brand and celebrity worship. The NBA learned the lesson of Michael Jordan too well.

WCBB has been around longer than the WNBA as the NBA has . So of course the audience and history is larger . The WNBA's is growing each year . MCBB has been around longer than WCBB and you see the big big difference right ?

Yeah I don't think the difference between the mens and womens college basketball footprints is solely a product of the men's game being around longer - but that potato has been hashed a million times around here. Regardless, I said the marketing for the WNBA isn't aimed at me, which it isn't, and it's hard for me to go to extra lengths because the college game already feels like the big fish. When the NCAA tournament draws 6-8 times the number of viewers of the WNBA (which has been around for 30 years now), and has the baked in advantage of college brands, I mean ... that's just how it is. I'm biased of course - I'll argue from here to eternity that the biggest game in women's basketball history was Tennessee vs UConn in 2001 in Knoxville - and nothing's replaced that since - but we all have our biases.

That said, this isn't some kind of polemic about the WNBA, if people want to like the WNBA, go to town. Go for it. This started with me echoing glv98's comments that WNBA games don't engage 'em. I'm the same way. And I think that whatever they market to, it's definitely not me or people like me. Oh well.

Jordan was a warrior on defense. He played both sides of the ball equally as proven by his being a perennial all-defense member

but you are so very right with everything else you wrote. I abhor watching that crap they call the pro game. and the 3-point shooting contest that happens in nearly every game,,,would rather watch a middle school game

I can’t stand to click on this thread. I think there is an update on recruiting, but quickly realize it is just as off topic as ever.

agree with this too,,,this topic would be better served on its own thread

I only chimed in bc I watched pro ball during the Chi Bulls run and they were masterful defenders

Do the lady Vols have any commits for 2024? We seem to have a serious recruiting problem. Am I wrong?

Only 3 of the top 60 have committed anywhere. We need to sign a top PG and a top C in this class. It's far too early to freak out.

In general, I'd say that we need at least 2 and hopefully 3 strong recruits. If we get them, then there's no problem. If we get less than 2 in this cycle, we have a problem.

I think you mean 2023
Sorry I meant committing to us!!!! No I mean 2024 also, things could change by then but I do alot of looking into players and I dont see any that show a particular liking to TN yet.
Several are leaning other ways already !!! We don't have any 2023 either so... I may be wrong and I hope I am

A final four run would certainly help. Not sure if we've got it in us, but it would help.

2027 Lauren Hassell plays at Clarksville Christian High School here in Clarksville. They host Clarksville High girls on Friday, January 13th at 6pm. Clarksville High has 2024 Lady Vol offer Imari Berry. That will be a must see game for Lady Vol fans!
* I’m going to see this game tomorrow night. I’ve never seen Lauren Hassell play in person but I played with her dad at APSU. She plays just like him in the clips I’ve seen. I’ll try to get some highlights! 😎
