2024 Recruiting Thread

Not quite in line with your post which opined the number of LV followers. The Lady Vols did not attract all 876,000 viewers. If 50% were Lady Vol viewers your tally would be 438,000 Lady Vol fans. That number would be even less if you consider the higher draw would be the #1 ranked defending national champions.

Come now. I'm giving the W the benefit of the doubt here. Last I checked two teams played in the W games as well, so you need to divide their total by two just like you did for the Lady Vols. Plus I'm comparing the W's championship series to a regular conference game for the Lady Vols.

Also if the Lady Vols were in the WNBA their attendance numbers would be in the top three.

Really now?

TV ratings...
according to ESPN PR, with Sunday’s game between Tennessee and South Carolina bringing in 876,000 viewers.

The WNBA finals brought in 649,000 viewers.
Between Tennessee and South Carolina? I thought we were speaking of just Tennessee?

Tell that to an investor then. I’m all for a Tennessee WNBA team I think it’s well overdue but there’s a reason it has yet to been done.

Good luck. One of the saddest days in wnba history was when they allowed the Comets ☄️ to fold. The wnba became dead to me.

But it wouldn't be the Lady Vols. It would be an expansion WNBA team with no history and no followers. Also the ticket prices would be more than the cost of the Lady Vol tickets.

That's how games usually work. 2 teams play.
That's not how business works though when decisions are made to expand and demographics are considered. They are not looking at oh versus such and such the ratings were this it's more so broken down by counties and viewership per county is how the WNBA vettes its potential expansion offers. Tennessee is well overdue and from the sounds of it lately they are being considered as a finalist for WNBA expansion in Nashville , i've seen a lot of articles about them but the W will only take 2 and their down to the final 5 or 6 realistic locations .

Nashville’s sports council is really, really good.
New football stadiim on the drawing board, best soccer only stadium in the country. Wonder if Martha Ingram would like to own a WNBA team? Frists Dollar General folks, Tractor Supply?
I would love Tractor Supply just for the marketing prospects😆

One more thing to compete with the LVs brand. LVs need to be THE WBB team in TN. Last thing we need is for girls in Nashville to grow up Nashville Whatever fans and not LV fans. Plus we need businesses sponsoring the LVs Booster Her Club and the shiny new Nashville Whatevers of the WNBA.

Why be seen as competition and not a level of growth for young ladies in tennessee ? The men's team has a plethora of college teams along with an NBA team its bound to happen. The LV"s have owned the stomping grounds of WBB in tennessee for decades it's time to elevate and give young girls from tenneseee a chance to play at home like that other legendary school has done. They have a pro team and both do well in attendance so im unsure how a pro team in tennessee takes away from the LV's .

Pro teams (even one in Nashville) don't care about giving TN girls a chance. You can already see that LVs fans are typically an older crowd. Adding a distraction in TN's premier city will detract from the LVs, not support it.

Updated 2024 Wish List
PG Jaloni Cambridge
SG Imari Berry OR Alexandra Blue
CP Blanca Thomas OR Kateryna Koval

NIL machine go brrrr

The irony of these back to back posts... one post saying the LVs need to be TN's team, directly followed by a list of recruiting targets including TN high schoolers who apparently have little to no interest (if you listen to scuttlebutt here) in becoming Lady Vols...

Majority of the girls (basketball and softball) view Tennessee as their team growing up, rosters on both say it does not matter.

Same as the Titans. Tennessee used to be a one-sport state: Volunteer football. Yes, there was a pocket of Memphis 8 hours west of Knoxville, but otherwise, UT football ruled the roost. That support has been eaten into by the Titans over the years - well, that and a historic run of failure on the field for Tennessee.

And a pro team isn't going to draft girls from Tennessee for any reason other than winning. Pro teams are only about pro teams. They are never going to care about anything else.

It's a wish list, not a prediction list, my gloomy friend.
That said, our NIL machine needs to be humming this cycle. We can't get outbid like last year.

Bueckers getting drafted would be interesting turn of events, especially if a player like Cambridge or Berry head to UConn. Midstate would have a UConn following

I don't think a WNBA team in Nashville would be the slightest competition for the LVs. First of all, sadly, not that many people care about the W at all. Sorry, just saying. Also, very few routinely come fm Nashville for LV games and if they do, having a W team won't stop them.

Also, as far as the TItans hurting the Vol's support, are you kidding? People are lining up for those incredibly expensive Vol football tickets and will do so even more now that they're good again.
