2024 Transfer Portal Thread

4 scholarships available which we will be looking to fill with: (2 immediate contributors + 2 developing players)
I appreciate your contributions and involvement to the board but your speaking in definites isn’t helping anyone…we have 5 available spots as Awaka has not announced anything, counting him officially as back seems misleading. As for the 2 & 2, again don’t think that’s totally accurate. I don’t see the staff turning down any of Tyson, Milicic and Lanier if all 3 wanted in.

Yeah, staff is taking the best 4 or 5 they can to put a team that can be in National title contention on the court. Just have to wait and see how things fall.

Tyson and Igor getting in to visit is big. Now just waiting to hear if either commit.

Seems misleading but let’s be real, he’s back probably 95/5. You don’t ignore the bigs in the portal without knowing if someone is coming back.

Do you think we'll ever hear TV/radio broadcast announcers--whether local or national --mention how much a school paid
for a player (via NIL)? I don't. I heard nothing specific about any deals last season--and doubt actual payment deals will ever be mentioned.
It's supposedly all perfectly normal and expected--and yet it's too unseemly to mention publicly. The dark side of the business that
won't get mentioned because to do so would ruin the charade that it's still "college sports."

Many of Awaka’s fouls in the games I watched were being aggressive going for offensive rebounds. He does commit some silly ones but these were a lot of them. Can’t really fault him too much for being aggressive on the glass. People who act like he doesn’t add value to this team seem to be shortsighted imo.
For sure. Awaka’s mere physique gets whistled for some of those fouls unfairly ….

What’s everyone’s thoughts on Milicic?

Would he be a good pick up?
He would be an absolute miracle for our team... Pairing a shooting big who can be position-less alongside a guy like Awaka is great. The Croatian is super competitive as well and we won't see him back down.... His shot phenomenal and handle+drive... My current #1 want personally... He's like a more polished, ready JP Estrella more mature and experienced

I’ve seen rumors that Knecht got 1mil. If that’s been out there then obviously I haven’t been paying attention, if not, then that’s the rumor. If true, that’s still too much imo

But that’s also coming from petty UNC fans.
Seems a bit much considering no one knew what he would do at this level. Sounds exaggerated.

He might have gotten 1 mil after he started lighting it up here, but I don’t believe he got 1 mil to transfer to Tennessee.

I wish players could be capped on how much they can make. May sound petty, and I may not be thinking of all the other variables (I’m not LOL) but I feel like it would create a more even playing field.
NIL won't be capped. What's frustrating is how schools like Bama seem to have more NIL funds for basketball than we do. I could understand it from traditional basketball schools who give less support to football. Basketball is their bread and butter. But for schools like us and Bama, football is the bell cow. So, do they just have richer donors, or are our donors kind of cheap?

I respect that and I thank you guys for everything you do... I just get excited when I know something to be true so I speak in definites in those situations... Will be more mindful towards the readers in the future just keep that to myself and to speak in the hear and now... We will not have more than a 8 to 9-man rotation historically that is a proven fact for our Tennessee basketball team... Getting all three of those guys you listed would ultimately lead someone to transfer out and then ultimately we would end up with another developmental player just as I said... So I think "if" Awaka returns - the four returning players will consist of two immediate contributors and two guys more on the developmental side not getting that many minutes (if any at all).....

And that's based on my educated guesstimations regarding observation of this team for years and trends that is easy to see. Go VOLS 🍊
