2024 Transfer Portal Thread

If you’re referring to Gainey I don’t think he’s really considered “undersized”…plus look around, plenty of “undersized” guys whose scoring has transited. Also, he’s 6’1”, not sure id really consider thy undersized as PG, jmo.
Mark Sears is 6-1. He would have be SEC player of the year if Bama had won the SEC.

I don’t see him being able to compete in the NBA. Just not physical enough to survive. He may be able to play in the European league. Regarmless of where he -lays in the next couple of years, he has to change his attitude and grow some confidence in his abilities.
He (AIDOO) lacks that Dogg in himself. That no quarter/line in the sand mentality. Not sure if this will ever happen. Maybe if his Kangaroos are held hostage he might start taking on a sense of urgency.

He "disappeared" because DK went off. At some point, there is one basketball where there is usually 1-2 shots per possession. We were riding our CPOY. JJJ only missed one shot, and that was a late midrange shot near the paint.
He disappeared which is what I was agreeing to with my comment. I don't think it was exclusively because DK "went off". I do like JJJ unlike others around here. I think it is also fair to say he disappeared on offense in the 2nd half.

The season before isn’t last year. It can both be true that UT wilted in the 2022 tourney and didn’t in 2023. No idea how Tennessee beat Duke and made the S16 without ZZ.

This isn’t a slight to ZZ but we became a better team once he went down because mentally we had to be tougher and play lights out defense without ZZ running point. It allowed Santi to become primary ball handler and forced others into scoring rolls.

While I’m disappointed this team didn’t make the final four, last year’s loss to FAU makes me madder because our team, defensively, was stout.

Worse than that. He allegedly got away with a rape in the Bahamas that would’ve gotten him arrested here. Lots of evidence, but he flew the coop. It’s now a million dollar suit. Feel pretty confident in saying he isn’t on the list.

Didn’t know about that. Maybe there are two different controversies he is involved in. I just remember seeing in December a TTU player hitting the portal mid-season and there was a ton of rumor mill speculation online from TTU accounts that he slept with a 16 or 17 year old younger sister of that teammate on the team and the dad was extremely pissed so his son, the TTU player, transferred because it was untenable to move forward.

But yes, the bottom line is he is (to put it generously) not the type of player Barnes would want.

My ideal portal class:
Chaz Lanier
Saint Thomas or Eric Dailey
Rueben Chinyelu
Someone who can play PG to spell ZZ or off the ball with ZZ.

The staff may have had some contact with Malik Dia from Belmont, but I can't see him ending up at Tennessee. As big as Barnes is on guys being a culture fit, I don't he fits the mold of a "Barnes" type of player. I'm not sure he would defend at the level Barnes demands, and his work ethic leaves a little to be desired based on some things I have heard. Not a bad kid by any means, but I'm just not sure he is willing to work at the level Barnes demands his guys to work at.

Could be wrong on this one, and he's definitely gifted offensively enough to help Tennessee immediately if he ended up in Knoxville and bought into the work culture.

These are guys we've been in touch with?

I think I'm one of the few that think Bronny could be a really good college player, not a star, but a contributor on a high level team. I don't think his Dad was much of a problem at USC or his popularity. I highly doubt it would be any worse at UT. Obviously, if we don't ever reach out to him it's a useless point to make.

I agree with you, he only disappointed relative to being Lebron’s son. He was fine for a true freshman, seems like he’ll develop into a good college player

Agree. The alleged rape, the other stuff. Barnes wouldn’t even think about that guy coming in here. I’m glad about that. Nate Oats likely is on the phone with him as we speak.
Or Illinois. They didn’t mind the allegations against Shannon. Just went on down the road as if nothing happened.!
