2024 Transfer Portal Thread

Agree with the sentiments of some
previous posters including @sami. I’ll go a bit further; having an offensive phenom like DK can be a handicap of sorts. We saw it in multiple games, including the Purdue EE matchup. I think it was a mistake to allow the team to some extent to fall into a mindset of largely relying on one guy for offensive production, and we know this was a criticism CRB directed at DK at least once during the season. It was counterproductive in some critical games. We don’t need to “replace Knecht” even if that were possible. Consistent, balanced scoring will serve us better than a superstar imo.

I understand and agree with most of what you said. However, the Purdue game came down to two simple facts - 1 Santi Aidoo and ZZ were not 00% due to illness. 2 ZZ uncharacteristically missed some easy shots and multiple FTs that would’ve changed the game completely. Likely due to the illness. It is what it is, but we didn’t lose that game because of our reliance on DK at all. Our reliance on DK put us in position to win that game.

There is no standard protocol, except that the NIL meeting is a discussion (officially) outside the purview of the University. In this particular instance, we adjusted our offer from the one previously discussed due to the offers made by UK and BYU. He has not signed anything nor committed to anyone, but the visit went as well as it could go. Barnes and ZZ told Lanier he was a necessary part of a team that could win a championship with him. It’s interesting because apparently Barnes talked a lot about team and the selfish culture we live in, and quoted a Bible verse about that. I think Lanier and his mom are exhausted after all the hoopla and travel. Everyone involved said the last meeting with Barnes went very well, and was emotional. After the meeting, Lanier posted the verse. Nothing is guaranteed in recruiting, but I think the coaches will be very surprised if he isn’t a Vol by the weekend. I can probably share more about the twists and turns after this is over.
Thanks very much for this. I’m definitely excited also that Barnes is expressing he feels he potentially has a championship caliber roster. Shows a lot of confidence at this early stage.

He’s the guy the coaches talk about most.
The last stretch 4 man with size was Olivier and when he was on vols were almost unstoppable. Unfortunately that was 30% of the time. If Igor can provide consistent shooting from 4 and even sparingly at 5 if team in foul trouble that would be awesome.

Igor has a relentless motor and aggressive mentality that ON just didn’t have. Overall, the gain is going to be significant.

And the funny thing is, he’s the lowest rated of all our transfers, by far. But folks seem to agree on his ability.
Igor's game is the most versatile out of all of the transfers, in my opinion. He has the ability to play as a stretch 4, and shoot it from 3 but can also post-up, or cut & finish at the rim.

He'll definitely stretch the floor, allowing for guards to be able to drive and kick for the open 3 once the defense is drawn in, or finish at the rim. The biggest question mark is how he'll match up defensively.

If a team's starters all averaged double figures, you'd think they would be successful.

Louisville's players all averaged double-digit points. With that balanced scoring, they went 8-24, finished dead last in the ACC and fired their HC.

In the Auburn game, we were down by 8 with a tad more than twelve minutes remaining. Barnes went to Knecht He proceeded to score 25 points and UT won by 8.

Not saying Lanier's a superstar, but I absolutely want one.

That would be nice to hear, but certainly not required. Thanks for what you bring to the discussion ... you are like EF Hutton!

gotta be vol

175lbs? Lanier weighs 200. If he’s off by that much, that tells me all I need to know about the rest of the article. BS take there..
That also was the first red flag for me as well and his opinion. If he doesn’t have correct information about his weight he hasn’t done his homework imo.

I think he will draw enough attention, like DK this year, but we will not have guys deferring as much as JJJ and Santi did this year. That kind of presence CAN make multiple others more effective. The reason I REALLY want him.

Carr is a talented guy, by all accounts. He looks a player--can score--and he's ready to play. If he's doesn't play as much as he expects to play because of Lanier, that may be a problem.

Players get the time they earn. That's been CRB's method for quite some time. If Carr puts in the work, CRB will reward him.

I hope Carr gets at least 20 minutes a game. He is a fighter on the court. Meaning he doesnt play scared.

I didn't see ON in the same light as Igor. ON was more of the prototypical PF to my eye. Igor is that legit stretch 4 that is a matchup nightmare for most teams. Having said all that, I remain hopeful but not fully bought in until he does it against SEC opposition on a regular basis. Seeing is believing.

Yes, I didn’t see them necessarily the same way either. I was just commenting on what someone said comparing them.
