2024 Transfer Portal

People may not like to hear this but maybe we need to stay out of the transfer portal…

NC State beat writers made a great point that Wes Moore decided to turn his back on the portal and buy into the players he had plus give role to his incoming freshmen. That mentality led to a strong core of seasoned players who were underachieving all their careers to a top 10 team.

I think u always HAVE to have certain pieces but be honest about turnover and chemistry. It clearly takes transfer forever to adjust to their new homes.

1 seems to be the sweet spot lol like Dye
At this point in time Kellie can’t do that. She’s built roster we’re she has to go to the portal every year. Because we are having difficulties land multiple high school recruits.

Exactly sound familiar? But they were already there. They stayed. They also sucked. Didn’t even make the tournament.

1 year later sweet sixteen
They made the tournament last year with a first round exit. Last season was supposed to had been transitional year for NC State anyway because their star player Elissa Cuane and a couple of other starters had graduated but the pollsters gave them the benefit of doubt
anyway. This season the opposite happened for them.

I disagree , Flaujea has grown miles since her freshmen year her game is becoming lottery pick worthy . Del Rosario has improved lightyears since game 1 of this season and we all have seen how Angel has blew up into a superstar under the helm of mulkey so lets not discredit her when its clearly due lol .
Hate to say it, but I agree with all of that...We gotta step!!! 🧐

No real movers added the portal so far

The total number of good forwards and post has increased slightly

Any know anything of the Cameron girl from Michigan who entered?

Winning Natties and preparing them for the next level are 2 different things. Look at HVL. Her stock has dropped since transferring to HVL. Morris also said she wasn't prepared.

I don't know what to think about Alexis Morris except to say she talks way, waaaaay too much. If her mouth is open, she's gonna try to stick her own foot in it and then has to backtrack later to apologize for or try to explain what she said.

Given her immature habit of running her mouth, and how not everything that comes out of it is always accurate, I don't pay much attention to her. For all we know, Mulkey could have begged, pleaded, constantly coached the heck out of Morris to do things she deemed unncessary to her success, only to then blame Mulkey for not preparing her for the next level.

OR, Morris was correct and Mulkey did not adequately prepare her for the next level. I really don't know because BOTH Morris AND Mulkey run their mouths too much when they shouldn't, and I never know what to believe.

In Mulkey's defense, though, she did give attitude-problem-player Morris a second chance that most others wouldn't have given her, and then probably had to spend an inordinate amount of time keeping her in line behaviorally and academically, so maybe that did leave Kim less time for individual skills coaching.

We'll likely never know.

Nothing about Wolfenbarger's college playing experience screams future wnba player. Neither did Alexis Morris's and even HVL has always been in a question mark when it comes to wnba potential. Getting a roster spot at the next level is so so tough and I thought Alexis Morris's pouty response and when she first went to training camp embodied why she wasn't going to make it.

What KM does do very well, is develop and use the players she gets to put together a team that can win at the college level. She always says her goal is to win...not develop them for the wnba or mold them into admirable citizens...just win.

Personally I'm more of a fan of the Kellie Harper school of growing the whole person and player, and I think that has a lot to do with why a player like Horston was more all around prepared. Mulkey is not my cup of tea, but if anyone can figure a way to use JW to win, it would be her 🤷🏻‍♀️

Same here. Part of what's so depressing about our current situation (besides everything) is that it seems like such a case of nice guy finishes last. Comforting though that bad as it stings to have the S16 going on without us, the real outcome is the quality of the young women who leave here as finished products.

That said, it is possible to do both, see Coach Rick Barnes. That's one reason I want our next hire, if there is one, to be very well thought out and not some knee jerk reaction over idiotic social media outcry.

People who talk about Coaches developing players is usually mostly BS. Almost every coach at every school gives the players they have all they need to develop to their utmost ability. The problem comes in when you have a lot of players with limited ability. Mulkey, Geno, Dawn, don't develop players any better than Kellie or any other coach they just get the best players that are so talented that with the same development they exceed the others in ability. None were developing many players when they first started coaching at their present schools. They didn't just run out there and start winning National Championships or even Conference championships. They all had losing or close to losing records for the first three four years they coached.
They were able to recruit the talent and as the talent came in then their records and ability to win titles came into play.
Kellie can't recruit and has not built one roster that was capable of winning a National Championship in the five years she has been here. She was on the right track with Rickea, but failed to get Booker and any of the big post players or elite point guards to finish the deal for success.
Whether she is allowed to comeback or not she has to get an elite roster or more of the same. Same for anyone that gets the job if she is fired. I'll comeback and tell you exactly where we are after the portal closes and we see what our roster looks like. All our players have developed to some extent under Kellie they all are limited to some extent in talent. You can only develop to your athletic ability. One player I think they could've done more with is Kaiya Wynn she has extreme athletic ability, but no offensive basketball game.

But she didn’t say what she wasn’t prepared for, I think she was talking about how the training camps work, not being prepared as a player.

650 players in portal now, much more than the handful some are picking apart here.

What is said here is not in secret, so be sure to continue to cast doubts on our Coach, so you can complain if/when we don’t get the recruits we need.
