As much as we’d all like for most of the top players both athletically and academically to choose Tennessee — like they often did during Pat’s heydays — the reality is we aren’t often getting the best players anymore, but we ARE usually getting many of the finest young women in the country to Knoxville.
Year after year I have been amazed and delighted by the quality of the women, and their families, who are attracted to, and appreciate, the very things that make being a LVFL among the best choices (if not THE best choice), as future citizens, they could make.
Seldom have we been disappointed in the quality of the individuals who choose Tennessee, because it takes a certain quality of girl and family to appreciate the big picture of what makes for the best qualities in a program to choose from.
I cannot possibly heap enough praise on the Harpers and their staff for how exceptionally well they have fared in the areas of program culture and in ensuring everyone who proudly runs out through the tunnel wearing that Tennessee uniform will be someone we can all be proud of.
People should be careful not to minimize the importance of that. It matters a LOT. To me, anyway.
