A lot of game film sessions ahead today for this 2024 Transfer Portal class ranked #2 in WBB by one source.
Is this the first time any SEC school has signed four P5 commits with starter experience in a single class?
I’m watching some of PG Samara Spencer games from her sophomore and junior seasons today. Spencer is one of the most accomplished players in the SEC as a three year starter and the 2022 SEC Freshman of the Year.
Exciting times on Rocky Top
…and I’m enjoying every moment of it while traveling and working!
The buzz is real and firmly established!

Question for Tennessee fans, what do you envision each transfer and 2024 redshirt signee bringing to the team this season?
Great question! And, with the caveat that most of us have only minutes of video to go by, nonetheless, Coach Caldwell - and Staff - are apparently keen evaluators of talent. With that:
Lazaria Spearman is a welcomed and vital addition. Kim referred to her "training," and said something to the effect that "she is daylight and dark improved." That's very encouraging. All that length and agility, plus she appears quite speedy for a "big girl." I envision a lot of points in transition for Miss Spearman.
I believe that Ruby Whitehorn will amaze us in all aspects of her game. Others have compared her to Jordan Horston. I can see that, but with Ruby being a little less flashy, and a bit more consistent. She has so much talent, and yet appears a "pass first" teammate. And her defense!
A coach's dream.
Samara Spencer compliments, and likely leads a deep point guard group. I haven't seen her play a lot, but expect she will excel with this fresh start.
All this being said, I believe Alyssa Latham to be the best of this very talented group. There's just a little something more there: the way she attacks the basket for scoring and rebounding, her relentless paint defense. And, how about her superb shot-blocking ability?, which, as others have pointed out, is often at least partially an innate gift of skills and timing, which Alyssa has in spades. If her mid-to-outside game continues to develop and improve, as I'm fully confident it will, (I think) she will be an All-American.
As an aside, no one can say for certain how this will play out, blend and point guard play are the keys to success, especially in those critical early games. I think Coach Caldwell will rely more on the returning players than some might expect. Of course, Jewell's continued progress - and consistency - are very important. Sarah will play a lot. I think Kaiya and Tess will have a few double-digit games. If Jillian is finally, completely healthy she will excel. She and Lazaria could be the difference in winning or losing several SEC games. Avery, Destiny, and Edie? I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss their potential contributions.
Miss Boyd? Others will have to help here. I simply don't know. I see a lot of athleticism, so no reason to doubt her high school rankings. I just have a feeling she will play a lot.
And there's the Two-Hundred-Minutes dilemma. I can't predict who, or how good will be our starting five; but, I think our top twelve will be amongst the best ...Nationwide!
Again, blend, bonding, chemistry.
And
POINT GUARD play! Does she (they) want to show how many points she can score? Or does she want to
facilitate a championship?
Edited to add: I mentioned (then removed) Talaysia Cooper as a point guard, but I'm not sure where, exactly she will play most. But, from her frame, length, speed ...it's difficult to think of her outside our top seven. Again, there's that 200-minute dilemma.
Cheers.
