She didn’t get IN the portal in time.

That rule no longer applies.

But because of when she entered is probably one of the only reasons we got her. We were one of the few teams that did not have a full roster and could take her.

She loved / loves TN. We were her second choice until she realized we should have been her first.

Not that I want to resurrect this dead horse, but this did happen alot and is what made me think the problem was something other than Kellie "closing". What is this magical "closing"? These recruits were fine with the head coach thru five visits but there's that some little something when pen is about to touch papar? That never made sense. The head coach is probably the most known quanitity throughout the process.

That's reinforced for me when they do come back after the divorce - to the same head coach that somehow scared them off at the last minute before? Money, or lack of getting enough, by signing day made so much more sense to me.

And no, I can't explain why she struggled w hs recruiting, by taking mid tier players, before NIL. None of it makes sense.

Sorry, back to the present now.

Not sure if this goes here, but Brooks turned one of his key incoming recruits to Kentucky. He's gotten 3 of them to switch over so far, plus Amoore and Strack for the current VT team.

Can't understand why this couldn't have been us. Not even necessarily Brooks, but a coach like him with experience on this level who could also bring talent to make us competitive right away. How does KY do that and not us?

I'm curious if Petty will go back to KY. That could be an important re-recruit for him. I think she's taking visits elsewhere?

Yeah, timing was just bad unfortunately. I think Caldwell has promise, but yeah Brooks would have been good with Amoore, Strack, Silva and Blue coming on board. Those are basically the missing pieces (elite PG, scoring wing and height/post play) that Tennessee needed to become contenders. The irony, especially if he manages to get Lucy Olsen also. That would be a really nice looking starting 5.

Not sure where else Petty is looking at, but this lineup would let her go back to playing the 4 and probably make life easier for her when she's not battling trees as an undersized post.

While we waited for the buyout . . .

I wonder why we couldn't have gotten poor Scott Rueck and he could have left most of his team intact and brought them here. I read one of his departing players say he was the best coach she ever had and that they really loved him. Just not enough to ride with him into the WCC.

To me, ironically, getting that kind of coach would have brought the immediate forward movement the AD promised instead of the 2,3,4 yr plan we're obviously on, but which he said absolutely wasn't the plan. Crazy town.

I think the fascination and push of her style of play is very telling about how the search went. We don’t know everyone Danny White spoke to, but it seems like they are very sold and enamored with the idea that everyone will ultimately be playing CKC ball so we can lead the way in that front. You even see how eager people are to draw parallels with Heupel and other high scoring offenses. I think there’s some appeal in branding. I have other thoughts that I can only share in the safety of my home 🤣

I don’t see Kim Mulkey taking Deja Kelly at all. Not her kind of player unless Deja is saying all the right things and wants to completely change her game.

She is not a team player and Mulkey isn’t going to go for that. That’s why Van Lith is looking for another school again.

More than once this season they lost games because of her. The Auburn game in particular she had 3 points and 1 assist. Clearly they had a conversation after that because her passing improved and so did the team.

Kelly would be more of the same and CKM might be insane, but she isn’t dumb. Lol

If we thought the drama btw FJ's Mom and Angel's was something to see, wait till Deja's Mom gets in the mix. Both Mom and daughter take up a bunch of oxygen. I've also never been sold on DK's talent, at all.

Everyone thinks Texas especially with Gaston entering the portal shortly after she announced she was transferring. Haven’t heard anything yet.

A player of her caliber would be silly to not take at least a couple three visits and see what’s out there.

Especially after A&M didn’t work out and she was so sold on Taylor. Didn’t feel like she explored her options much leaving HS. She committed to Taylor at UGA and the. followed her to A&M.
