2025 NBA Season Thread aka Draymond's Annual Wealth Destruction Tour

I blame Luka for the Porzingis thing. Luka + KP didn't work. Luka didn't like KP to set up in his favorite spots, so KP was just hanging around corner 3 mostly. He was also injury prone. The basketball public thought KP was a joke in Dallas.

And Luka's partially to blame for the Brunson thing. Luka kept the ball out of his hands. Brunson was a good 6th man. People thought he'd be a legit PG. Nobody saw this coming. The only time we got a taste of who Brunson really was happened in the Jazz series after the Mavs failed to extend him, and then the next summer was too late for Brunson, who wisely decided he didn't want to play with Luka. The FO still deserves the bulk of the blame, but I think this is part of the Luka experience that they were tired of. No matter what they want to do, their identity is Luka.
Still is

Interesting Luka stat I saw, two years ago Luka was averaging over 10.5 FT’s per game. This year he is down to 6.6.

Edit:

At this point in his career, AD on the court is undervalued. Whether you agree with me that he's around #7 or he's closer to #15 because of durability, I think everybody has to admit he is 1 of only 3 two-way game-wreckers in the NBA (Giannis and Wemby).

I doubt it will result in a title for Dallas, because titles are hard to win, even if we could guarantee Davis's health...but he's still the fkn man.

I hope Luka gets in shape and shuts the damn mouths of all the naysayers and makes Mavs front office look like fools.

You already wanted that and now he's on your team, so of course!

My NBA group chat consists of a Mavs fan who has been numb for 2 days, and a Lakers fan who doesn't really like Luka so he's not even that jazzed about this. He's happy Luka will save his team, but he's not happy he has to watch Luka basketball for the next 10 years. It's funny that I'm the one most excited about the trade.

Guess how many AD gets? 12 FTAPG! 12!

And he's not gaming the system. He's not tricking you into leaving your feet, and then jumping into you. The other team is fouling him because he's about to get a layup or a dunk.

I show AD at 7.6 FTA per game. Not sure where you got 12.

And I agree when he’s healthy, he’s clearly a top 10 guy in the league.

I keep seeing people say $117m was "stolen" and "taken" from Luka because he doesn't get the full supermax. For years, his team told him to get in shape and try harder on D. He thought he was above the team. Turns out, he wasn't.

Also, don't cry for Luka. He can go with a short extension and time up FA to hit when he's eligible for the 10-year vet package (and recoup almost all of this lost $). I imagine he'll get back down to around 240 by then.

What is it about being traded that makes him not eligible for the supermax? I don't understand NBA contracts.

The top level of the super-max is only available to players who are on the team that drafted them and have all-NBA honors.

The next level is guys who were traded and have all-NBA honors.

Next level (might not even qualify as "super" max) is guys who left in FA and have all-NBA honors.

And if you're on a second team, I believe the time you carry with said team will factor over the years. So not only would Luka hit 10 year vet bump, but also 3 years with Lakers.

JJJ is a great 2-way player but only 6 RPG and I wouldn't call his offense "game-wrecking" at this point. He doesn't go to the rim like those other guys do. That's why Davis and Giannis break defenses. Davis gets 30% of his shots at the rim. Giannis is 55%!!! Wemby is only at 21% from 0' - 3' but 5' is like 3' to him. JJJ is at 14%.

Tatum is borderline elite both ways, but I don't consider him a game-wrecker.

So you’re Rob Pelinka and trying to get Luka. You win the trade because you got Luka, no matter what. You know this. Even if it costs us the 31’ 1st and the pick swaps in ‘28 and ‘30. You somehow, while hypothetically risk Harrison hanging up, keep lowering and negotiating the initial offer while you’re getting the clearly better asset? And you’re that confident you’re gonna get the deal done you continue to low ball him instead of risk him shopping Luka around?

That doesn’t add up. This was definitely an ownership decision. They wanted Luka out the building and I’m incredibly curious why.

I don't get how any of this means it's ownership and not Harrison? Why would they not want a better return?

Harrison and Pelinka are boys, which IDK what that means to the equation.

His biggest loss will be from TX tax (0%) to CA tax (a lot of %)

Paraphrasing Russillo:

Some people think this is a message and a rebuke of Klutch? OK. They just extended Lebron, hired his guy as coach, and drafted his son....maybe they just seized a great opportunity.
