2025 Recruiting

Whoever bids the highest between Texas and Texas Tech will get her.

Aaliyah Chavez of Lubbock (Texas) Monterey High School is the undisputed No. 1 playerin the Class of 2025. She narrowed her list to six programs this summer: Oklahoma, Texas, Texas Tech, UCLA, South Carolina and LSU – but now, it’s down to five.
Back in July, LSU and Texas emerged as front runners to ultimately land Aaliyah Chavez. However, LSU has taken itself out of the running as, according to sources, her camp has asked programs for an excess of $1 million dollars in NIL support.

I’m telling yall to watch out for the hometown team Lady Raiders. Patrick Mahomes is pouring ALOT of money into that program, and I wouldnt be shocked at all if she stayed home. I’d love to see her at Tech and bring that program back to relevancy.
Interesting… 🧐
…damn. Another insider… 😉🤙🏼

A million really. Interesting to see who will guarantee that much.

What I'm wondering is when one of these "I'm greater than god" players will become an example for the girls who can't demand such a price-tag

TX Tech softball giving Canady $1 mil a year, so I'd imagine it'd be the same for Chavez.
That’s a lot but I would lie my o know what the other elite players are getting, like Juju, Kiki, Hidalgo and Betts. Once u know those numbers, u would know where the market is set at. Like I’ve always said I could pay top dollar for an elite player, but not an average player.

And by "I" you mean... ?

It’s a lot for WBB. But on the other hand, one great player like she seems to be surrounded by good, not great talent can result in competing for championships for at least three years and possibly 4 given low WNBA comp.

the only good I see in such high payment to ncaa players is them not leaving early for the W,,,which isn't a problem anyway,,,YET!

Does Anybody not think we need to be searching for post players?? I understand the way she wants her system to run, so then don’t we need bigs who can move??
The twins' Dad thinks we need to be searching for post players. He posted that immediately upon their signing. Obviously, common sense agrees w him.

But skilled, athletic bigs who can run are probably the hardest recruits to find, and when they exist they get plucked quickly by the top elite schools.

Also, in selling the absolute gospel of the new system, IMO there's a downplaying of the need for size in order to make the 'positionless' case. But in reality, everyone and their granny knows it's still a game of height.

/\ All good points and I agree

On the flipside, one smart coach will figure out how to dictate matchups at one point and if there is not a backup "group" it could get ugly

some coaches have had good success with shooting 60%+ from the three and will stay with their offense even when losing is eminent and that's ok if they are in a weak conference and play cupcakes year round bc both coaching and caliber of athletes are much lower in those realms

However this is the SEC and the world of elite athletes and coaches.

As an opposing coach, I can hear from another coach "I have a backup plan",,,but until I see both, the plan and the individual players who can run such a plan, I am not convinced. And right now we do NOT have a back-to-the-basket low post threat,,,Nope, we cannot play that type of offense in the SEC with this group,,,nor defend it.

I am NOT knocking this group, in fact I love what Kim has done in such a short time with the portal and getting a competitive team and an offensive strategy for that particular team...But as far as future HS players recruited,,,not impressed.

you can tell me all day long how TN has two top 50 and one of them a top 15 player(s)...But I will tell you right back that: 1-they were a package deal and 2- only two of last year's top 25 teams recruited them besides us...If we don't get on the stick in HS recruiting we will be right back in the same hole that Kellie and Holly left us in

We agree! Go figure. I would add that lack of hs recruiting puts us right back in the Kellie boat of praying for portal miracles. Some would argue that's worked for us before and is the new way forward. I would argue we've about used all our portal luck up for now and depending strictly on the portal is very dangerous. Obviously better to have both avenues.

When they land Grace Knox here shortly I'll feel wayyyy better.

…Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz click!

That’s the sound of letting out plenty of line and allowing things to play out for a game or half dozen before I sharpen pitchforks.

Winning to improve recruiting is the step to take over the course of 2024-‘25.

again agree

Portal is a band-aid,,,not a cast.

Teams that consistently populate the top 10 are teams that recruit first and fill gaps with portal players,,,not the reverse. Though I understand that Kim had to do what she did to get into a competitive level,,,I do not understand the lack of focus on recruiting players of the level of Nyla Brooks and other high level recruits I keep tabs on.

And you can tell me all day long how they may have difficult relatives and NIL standards,,,but I will tell you right back,,,get used to it! They're elite and the families are 9 times out of 10 going to be loud and visible, just as they had to be to get their kids to this status....And that loudness and visibility has to be handled by a stronger coach

It is rare for a player like ______, who wrote to me that she wasn't concerned about NIL, she wanted to "play for a coach who would further develop her and get her ready to play professionally and considered NIL would take care of itself".,,,and yes this is a quote! from a top 10 player

Not a single credible source, scout, college coach, or reporter is providing this kind of skeptical breakdown on the way Coach Caldwell, Coach Lazo, and Coach Tubner have recruited both via the portal and high school in mere months since arriving at Tennessee.
They have been excellent in terms of recruiting.
It is completely unfounded to question anything pertaining to the recruitment of either Mia and Mya Pauldo in particular this myth about who did or did not recruit them when it is factual evidence that is verifiable across social media and recruiting services. There is a reason a lot of folks were quiet all weekend as ESPN and McDonald All-American Basketball Analysts projected Mia as the top true PG in the 2025 class after dominating elite competition. The entire class.
This following the Overtime Select League championship where her twin Mya put on a show against other elite players.
This is becoming comical at this point trying to neglect the significance of two elite verbal LV commits.

The only problem I see is can you get the player you need for every position. Sometimes the portal doesn't have every player you need and high school usually does not in 2025. Still going forward I see it as a 50-50 situation if you can get two excellent players out of the portal and two high school players you can be successful. Like right now we need a big and not a lot available in this high school class. Will the portal have someone? Usually not that likely as even if they do you have about 50 schools trying to get two or three players. High School classes usually have up to ten bigs in the top 100 so we need to target one and make the NIl enough to get her.
2025 looks like we'll be hoping for someone like that in the portal 2025 just didn't have many bigs.
