2025 Recruiting

And now 11 remain ... Tennessee jumps up to 3 commits. Don't thank me. I stole this list from the Boneyard.

1 - Aaliyah Chavez
4 - Agot Makeer
15 - Kaelyn Carroll
16 - Lara Somfai
17 - Jaliya Davis
29 - Keeley Parks
32 - Jaida Civil
42 - Lauren Hurst
60 - Destiny Lunan
98 - Naomi Benson
100 - Addison Mack

I was just about to say!!

Guards: The Twins, Cooper, Boyd, Strickland, Whitehorn, and hopefully we add Civil
Frontcourt: Spearman, Latham and hopefully Hurst

That’s already a pretty deep team without transfers!

Get a couple of frontcourt transfers and let’s ride.

add Kaiya to the mix and that backcourt is one of the best in the country next season. As you said, hopefully we get Hurst and add 2 front court players and this squad is STACKED

2025s who have posted offers.

They really need to get Mya Pauldo out of that number 56 spot she is far better than that ranking.

I really hope we get Hurst. I know that there is some talk of her being a two-sport star in college, but I think that would be really hard given that if she played out the Volleyball season, she wouldn't be able to join basketball until January. Given the months of intense workouts that it takes to thrive in Kim's system, I doubt that Kim would want someone to waltz in each January despite being in good shape. There is good shape and then there is Kim shape. Given how good Hurst is in Volleyball, it is interesting that none of her top 5 basketball schools are in the top 25 in volleyball. Perhaps she understands that she can't excel at both at a school with a top basketball program. On another note, they say her basketball upside is higher than most recruits because she hasn't had time to practice as much as other recruits due to being in Volleyball each year. I would love to get a 6'4" athletic recruit from Tennessee who get tons of rebounds, blocks shots, and even does well with steals! Fingers crossed.

So, we know Hurst has narrowed the field to programs near home. LVs included. And her brother is on the UT men’s team…..

Ik i maybe late on this but do anybody have game highlights for hurst i can find is her volleyball games.....

I have seen some, and I will try to dig them up.

She is, of course, long-limbed, and and with good handles, and well-balanced for her frame; and her stroke is smooth, with range. And, similar to Deniya Prawl, she's beauty in motion to watch. So much to like about our local lady.

A few weeks back (22 October - post #3034) I posted a critique by Brandon Clay, which I will also try to re-post (he's a very good evaluator, IMO) in which he somewhat parenthetically addresses Lauren's two-sport talent/dilemma. There's much to consider for such a skilled athlete - a lot to lose or gain, depending on perspective.
Of course, I don't know her, but I feel that, as Coach Jumper has suggested, she likely leans toward us. *Jumper, if I have misinterpreted you, I apologize.
HOWEVER, I don't see the two-sport route for her in Knoxville.
AND, call me a cynic, but I believe that either Wes or Poppie would "entertain" such a prospect to get her signature.
She sure is a high ceiling recruit, who (I think) would, as a one-sport athlete, be rated much higher.

Clay's evaluation:

Lauren Hurst (team) highlights:

She is silk!

2-sport athletes in college rarely stay 2-sport

I don't let my prodigies play softball, volleyball or soccer
because the mechanics are different and conflicting and they transcend into their second sport
-Softball is a stand and wait sport,,,there is no constant moving in any aspect of the game...In BB not-moving is never an option
-In volleyball you jump off of two feet, in basketball you take-off in flight on drives with one-foot (jumpshots notwithstanding)...Volley ball is a "models" sport, with its shorty-shorts,,,basketball is a physical sport with only rare players who fall into girly-girl status,,,volleyball is NOT a cardio sport,,BB is very much so
-In soccer you can move in your pick, in BB you must not move in a pick

The second reason I don't recruit players who want to !continue! (emphasis on continue) to play 2-sports is,,one sport always ends up as the second sport and it usually the less glamorous one

I can only recall two professional 2-sport superstars Deion Sanders and Bo Jackson and can name no females superstars who played two sports professionally

Lots have done this thing,,,but name one we can all remember or readily know
Maya Neal,,,Who Dat?

I am NOT saying don't recruit Lauren Hurst,,,far be it,,,just when you do so,,,make sure you know which sport IS her 2nd sport
It doesn’t matter who remembers the players or knows anything about them.

I don't think playing Volleyball and basketball would work for Kim. Volleyball extends most of December if your in the playoffs so that takes you out of all the pre-season games when your trying to build team chemistry. She would always come in way behind and just for the SEC basketball season. She will have to pick a sport if it is Tennessee. She has visited here as a basketball player don't think she has visited with the Volleyball coach.

She is also more of a perimeter player than a post up player. Has a nice three point shot might find playing time a little tough as a freshman.
