2025 Recruiting

I really hope we get Hurst. I know that there is some talk of her being a two-sport star in college, but I think that would be really hard given that if she played out the Volleyball season, she wouldn't be able to join basketball until January. Given the months of intense workouts that it takes to thrive in Kim's system, I doubt that Kim would want someone to waltz in each January despite being in good shape. There is good shape and then there is Kim shape. Given how good Hurst is in Volleyball, it is interesting that none of her top 5 basketball schools are in the top 25 in volleyball. Perhaps she understands that she can't excel at both at a school with a top basketball program. On another note, they say her basketball upside is higher than most recruits because she hasn't had time to practice as much as other recruits due to being in Volleyball each year. I would love to get a 6'4" athletic recruit from Tennessee who get tons of rebounds, blocks shots, and even does well with steals! Fingers crossed.
She is coming to Tenn. to play basketball and maybe do both later on but not right away

How good is Hurst can she dominate in the SEC???

I don't think playing Volleyball and basketball would work for Kim. Volleyball extends most of December if your in the playoffs so that takes you out of all the pre-season games when your trying to build team chemistry. She would always come in way behind and just for the SEC basketball season. She will have to pick a sport if it is Tennessee. She has visited here as a basketball player don't think she has visited with the Volleyball coach.

She is also more of a perimeter player than a post up player. Has a nice three point shot might find playing time a little tough as a freshman.
We play 12 ppl.. lol :)

Chase Budinger is an example that basketball and volleyball can work together. Both require explosion and quickness. Hakeem Olajuwon had legendary footwork he gained from playing soccer as a youth and still is the go to guru for foot moves among NBA big men.

Skills are always transferrable if you know how to use them.

Rockets fan? Them my boyz ya talking about! 🚀

2-sport athletes in college rarely stay 2-sport

I don't let my prodigies play softball, volleyball or soccer
because the mechanics are different and conflicting and they transcend into their second sport
-Softball is a stand and wait sport,,,there is no constant moving in any aspect of the game...In BB not-moving is never an option
-In volleyball you jump off of two feet, in basketball you take-off in flight on drives with one-foot (jumpshots notwithstanding)...Volley ball is a "models" sport, with its shorty-shorts,,,basketball is a physical sport with only rare players who fall into girly-girl status,,,volleyball is NOT a cardio sport,,BB is very much so
-In soccer you can move in your pick, in BB you must not move in a pick

The second reason I don't recruit players who want to !continue! (emphasis on continue) to play 2-sports is,,one sport always ends up as the second sport and it usually the less glamorous one

I can only recall two professional 2-sport superstars Deion Sanders and Bo Jackson and can name no females superstars who played two sports professionally
But there are quite a few pros who had played two sports at the college level.

Kristin Folkl. (Stanford)

She played basketball professionally and played on the U.S. Olympic volleyball team.

Don’t forget Natalie Williams at UCLA! She was an All-American in both basketball and volleyball. 2 time collegiate player of the year in volleyball with two national titles. Had a great career in both the ABL and WNBA.

I just wonder why people love to veer off topic in recruiting threads. Let's focus on the girls we got and the ones we are after...not people who played multiple sports years ago.

The information the board wants to know is when is Lauren Hurst committing to a school?

Jaida Civil commitment date?

1000%!

We know why they like to veer off topic, because this successful recruiting does not fit their motive against the LV program.
This staff gave the fans as good a transfer portal class that you’ll ever see in WBB.
Five players. Five that started last season from ACC and SEC schools.
Each player since day 1 now contributing in an LV jersey and representing the program in a way that’s making former LVs proud.
But yet, to these same individuals that is not a topic of discussion.
Now to the 2025 recruiting, Tennessee according to some currently have a Top 2 recruiting class. As you stated, instead of focusing on this, anticipating the arrival of elite talent, and supporting these future LVs these posters frequently get off-topic and even worse constantly overhype and overvalue prospects going elsewhere that aren’t even as good and certainly not superior to the talent that has committed to Tennessee.
Why in the world will Tennessee pay a HS prospect $1 million dollars that might not ever even average 20 ppg on this level? Every year this generational label gets thrown around and the player does not meet that expectation because it’s unrealistic.
If any of the three HS prospects committed to Tennessee had done so with another program, then and only then would those folks be on here talking about their abilities.
It’s clear as day that it’s an agenda.
