2025 Recruiting

No basketball coach in the country is going to let her play both. Unlikely a volleyball coach would either.

Under the old rules where off-season practice was very limited? Sure. But sports are basically year-round now, and no coach in either sport is going to allow a player to give up the off-season development, where 90% of growth and progress is made in the modern game.
You have research to prove this?

Some of these are All-Americans: Joe Gibson, Jake Gibbs, John Hannah, Jimmy Hitchcock, Todd Helton, Butch Hobson, Dixie Howell, Bo Jackson, Jermey Parnell, Chad Jones, Ken Stabler…. lots more.
The most recent of those is 30+ years ago. It doesn't happen in modern college sports.

Again, refer to my original post. Since the rule changes of 10 years ago allowing virtual year-round practice in sports other than football, multi-sport athletes don't exist in a meaningful fashion.

I don’t have time until tomorrow to post the most recent ones. But why you think track and football aren’t dual sports…they are…you kicked out track so you could be right.

Yes. The firm I work for has negotiated contracts for hundreds of college coaches in a variety of sports. It's my business to know how coaches operate in modern college sports.
2023 Tennessee commit Ethan Davis got approval to play both football and basketball at UT.

Dee Beckwith and Malachi Wideman thought they were coming here for football and basketball. Then they got a dose of reality as to how hard it is to crack a Rick Barnes rotation only being a part time player, and ended up going football only.

It’s crazy hard to try to play two college sports and do both at a high level.

It is hard. But it’s possible and should be allowed if coaches believe it’s in the player’s best interest. This black and white pronouncement trend by posters is incorrect and boring.

We've seen this before in the past doubt he can break the rotation when he finally gets there in January. He gets his uniform, but were already set in who is going to play and he would have to do something magical to get any playing time at all. If Hurst tries to play both it will probably be more volleyball than basketball just the way it would work out.

How will that work since their seasons overlap?
Bruce Ellington played both at South Carolina. I think he waited to join the hoops team until their football season was over.

But I still think Davis ends up football only so it’s a moot point.

Davis would never see the floor in hoops anyway as loaded a team as Barnes has this year

Between the three final schools who has the best volleyball program?
I would move heaven and earth to let her play both as a Lady Vol. A great pickup for both programs. Now is not the time to be stubborn.

Spearman, Whitehorn, Cooper, Boyd, Latham, Strickland, Wynn Wells? Prawl, Mia, Mya, and Civil. If we get Hurst were looking for a big in the portal. Don't know if Wells will return think she could play in the system fully recovered from injury and in shape she looks neither right now. Really don't know if she is eligible even if she does not play anymore this season.

You add a big inside player or two this team will be hard to handle next season.

UT and NC State are pretty comparable this season.

Clemson does not have a good volleyball program.

Tennessee has the best program of the three and Clemson is by far the worst. NC State is decent won more than they lost but still finished 9th in the ACC. Clemson was next to last won two conference games.
