2025 Recruiting

We’re going to need to go portal and get some post players and a point guard. I like the team if that happens next season. A lot of work to do for 2025, but need to get the work that needs to be done now. That means rebounding and scoring inside and someone about 25 percent better than Powell playing point guard.
We need at least 1 but preferably 2 elite players and 2 others, a total of 4 starters to go with Spear.

Were ok except for post players and a point guard. Cooper is going to start I believe along with Spear and hopefully a point guard unknown at this time. Boyd should back up the one and two with Puckett playing some three. We have Hollingshead and Striplin back inside really don't want to go with them need better post players. Tamari might come back, but if that happens hopefully it will be a return to form of her sophomore season.

I haven’t watched Cooper at all yet, it we need a Pg,Sf,Pf and Center, nobody on the current roster should be starting next season besides Spear. What position does Cooper play?

Combo guard one and two. I expect her to play one of the wing positions. I think we'll go three guards with the present roster. If no point guard in the portal we could go Cooper at point guard she has that ability. I'll just say we need at least four better players and we need some players to transfer out. I know that seems harsh, but we have two or three that would be better on another team.

I was just going to ask this. Hoopgurlz had her listed as a point guard coming out of high school, which would give us Cooper, Wells, and Boyd who could all play point next year. Not to mention Wynn, who has been back-up point by necessity this year.

Wells would be a questionable player at this time would depend on a full recovery seems it is going well. Boyd probably needs some seasoning and she would be a backup. I really like Cooper on a wing the way she can drive the ball is impressive much like Horston. I would get a point guard out of the portal if they were elite otherwise we have options.

Can she shoot? And we do need players to transfer out but I don’t think they will, they won’t get playing time anywhere else, only way they transfer is with a coaching change.

SC fans say she cannot yet she averaged 25 a game in high school. I haven't seen her play enough to form and opinion on that part of her game Coach Kellie says her mid-range game and getting to the basket are terrific so we'll see eventually. With all the time she has to develop you would expect her to be really great by next season in all phases of the game. I don't think she is going to be a three point shooter more or a Horston type player.

She’s probably a work in progress, I’ll just wait to see her play before I judge.

For one reason or another, we seem to always have at least one player transfer out every year (as does just about every other NCAA program). Miles, Suarez, and Pissott transferred out after last year, Saunders after 2021-22, Salary after 2020-21, and Green and Massengill after 2019-20. I don't want to speculate about who could transfer out after this year, but I would be bummed to see anyone go. If everyone who can comes back next season, I think we'd have four scholarships available for the portal, and I'd rather add exciting a few new faces than lose anyone (though odds seem high that at least one player will transfer out just based on history and the transfer portal being what it is these days).

I disagree that players on our team wouldn't get playing time anywhere else. Avery Strickland averages the least minutes per game on our team, but she averaged 20 minutes per game for an ACC team last year and started 11 games for them.

This is true and not only these three. The evaluation of players has to get a lot better.
If Geno, Dawn, and Kim aren’t offering, if Pat wouldn’t have offered, then Kellie sure as hell shouldn’t be offering. I don’t think any WBB program has ever won a championship without a roster full of top 10 recruits.

They really could not evaluate her mental approach to the game and that is where she fails. I think another example of that is Wolfenbarger. When you are six foot five you have to be willing to take it inside and mix it up. You should be one of the best rebounders on the team. Standing out on the three point line just shooting four or five threes a game is not a player that is elite.
Sadly, Justine is very one dimensional She kind of takes away her God-given advantage as a tall guard with range by not even mixing it up. Forget about the rebounding (which I agree she should be better at), but even attacking the basket or exploiting mismatches. Hell, even Tess Darby tries (albeit unsuccessfully) to attack off the dribble.

It seems Justine ended up not being the Second Coming of Breanna Stewart after all.

Jersey is kind of a different story. Her late growth spurt screwed up her game. Can't hit threes anymore...can't hit mid range anymore...can't hit free throws anymore. Never learned to post up. Sometimes she can hit uncontested layups. She's pretty useless as a player, sad to say. I'm going to guess that her list of takers today will be much, much shorter than when she was a high school prospect.

I knew what Justine was when I watch her games, that’s why I never said anything when everyone thought we had some elite recruit. I knew she wouldn’t be good so I just stayed quiet on her.
First time I saw her chest three point launch, I knew that the chances that she would be a college star were slim. 6'4, but shot can be blocked by a 5'8 player. I got thoroughly roasted here for doubting her (and Kaiya Wynn's) perceived abilities.

Not sure who else offered her, but she was pretty much a consensus top 15 recruit so Kellie wasn't the only one that got bamboozled.

Always give your opinion no matter what others say, once They play here everyone will see who they truly are. That’s why I don’t be;I’ve I’m just getting any high school recruit and be happy with it, I need to see if they are good enough and not by some ranking.

Kim's first Baylor squad was like The Land of Misfit Toys coming into college, but only because Sophia Young was an unknown quantity coming into college. Miss State had a chance to also prove to be an exception with back to back championship game losses in 2017 and 2018.

It's pretty clear now Justine was a mis-eval, not just by us but by all the services and then by Shea Ralph. Missed more on mindset than on talent potential. For us, I think Justine may be a consequence of getting a commit at such a young age. Wasn't she about 16 when she verbaled? So, so much can change, esp w mindset. Even with what your 15 yr old self thought was your "dream school".

So that's 3 misevals out of how many recruits over those years? IMO most of KJH recruits have turned out to be exactly who we thought they'd be, for better or worse. I think Sam is a pretty savvy evaluators. We've tried both "take the tweeners we can get" and "only take elites" and have a crazy, unbalanced roster to show for it.

Since it's highly unlikely KJH is going anywhere after this year, I wish the time, money and effort would be spent getting her some decent NIL I hear those saying lack of NIL is an excuse. So let's test that. Get her some money and some top recruits and if she still can't beat ranked teams, then we know she needs to be replaced. And solid NIL will be in place to help lure the next coach.
yes, she's such bad player she does't get minutes...oh wait, she starts???
truly a quandary, an enigma,,perplexing

My take from watching Cooper play in limited minutes last season is that she was similar to Saniya Rivers as a freshman, but not as good. She didn't have Rivers's handle/court vision and couldn't get to the basket as effortlessly. She may have been a scorer in high school, but it was not translating well to the college game given how poor her FG%, 3FG% and FT% were. I think "work in progress" is probably a very accurate description.

I mean, didn't LSU literally just do that last year? Angel was their only top 10 recruit, and Morris (#20) and Poole (#24) were their only top 25 recruits. All three came in through the portal.

South Carolina's and UConn's teams that have won titles over the last decade or so have been more or less "loaded" with top 10 recruits, but other teams who have won (Notre Dame, Baylor, Stanford) have had at most three top 10 recruits. Yes, when you recruit like South Carolina, you significantly increase your odds of winning a championship, but even if you can get 2-3 top-tier recruits you can win it all. We had that last year with Horston and Jackson, but otherwise it's been since 2018-19 that we've had multiple top-10 recruits on our roster (Westbrook, Zaay Green).

All of those teams I believe have had top-10 post players, too (Reese, Boston, Stewart, Shepherd, Cox, Brink). Unless you count Rickea as a post, we haven't had a top-10 post since 2017-18 with Mercedes Russell.

Amb, I made the same mistake. When everyone was raving about the new player coming in, I watched some videos on her. I then posted that her shooting technique was not ideal and that not many succeed in Div1 with that type of release because it takes too long to get off and can be easily blocked. I was roasted as well for saying that.
