2025 Roster is Concerning

We get Jourdan Thomas back next year at safety, so I think the secondary will be fine. We return everyone else. LBers return everyone except for jalen Smith, but I think Spillman is going to be a difference maker. O-Line loses a lot, but it could be the same thing like the secondary this year. We lost our entire secondary, yet they improved significantly this year. We certainly need a WR and another lineman, plus another RB probably. Peyton Lewis and Bishop would still be solid regardless imo.

DL loses Omari Thomas, James Pearce, Norman Lott, Simmons, Bailey and Eason

The only WRs we have are Brazzell, Squirrel, Mathews, Staley….. all the others are true freshmen, graduate, or are in the portal.

Razor thin at Safety as Brooks graduates, we lost Hayward (a top 100 kid), and didnt have anyone highly rated in the class.

And while we were busy prepping to lose a playoff game, all the big portal guys got gobbled up.

Deep trouble next year.
7-5

Stop with this 'Heupel is better than Pruitt' No S***!!! The point is how have Heupel's recruits filled in for Pruitt's recruits? The poster is right. Do you see our 2 lines of scrimmage being just as good as this year?
When Heuple took the job, there weren't that many Pruitt recruits left. He has a 30-9 record the last 3 years so the roster is obviously better. It also make us a top 10 program over the last 3 years. Nobody expected Huepel to get the program to this point before his 5th year. They just made the playoffs with an average OL, average WR core, and a first year starter at QB. That's called coaching my guy. It's ok to be emotional over this loss but it ain't the end of the world. The bigger picture says we're headed in the right direction. We just need a couple tweaks to take that next step from top 3-5 in the SEC to the top 2. When we do that we'll be a real title contender.

We must have the largest NIL in the country, with every VOL helping.

I think there’s a lot of over reactions to last nights game. We frankly didn’t play good football and on top of that we where the less athletic team combine those two things and it’s disastrous.

However the future is bright. We have 3 5 star QB’s either on roster or in the pipeline if you still count Gmac. And it’s not like we have a terrible roster.

On defense We need to get deeper and more athletic in the secondary and I think we need to get better on the interior or the DL.

On offense we have solid young talent and promising and improving young QB.

I think if we can stockpile some WR talent that really stands out we aren’t far away from competing in these games.

Not sure what the Oline will be like next year it will be young but immensely talented.

We aren’t far off from competing with GA and OSU but we can get there by good recruiting and as fans contributing to NIL and the coaches need to prove to recruits they can put them in the league. We can get there we’ve already come so far in a few years.

Early prediction:

1. We have enough data now to predict how we play in twos games against good teams.

2. Losses at UF and Bama.

3. Loss at home to UGA.

4. One unexplainable loss (happens every year).

8-4.

Rinse / repeat.
8-4 the absolute ceiling for this team next year. Gonna be a long year

If we are going to be an “elite” team, we need elite assistant coaches. Tired of the SOS as well…….
Speaking of assistant coaches, can you believe Tim Banks is one of five finalists for the Frank Broyles award given to the nation's top assistant coach? Last night’s performance did not help his cause IMO.

The game was essentially over after the first 11 minutes. In fact, if not for Will Brooks’ interception in the end zone and Ryan Day calling the dogs off midway through the 4th quarter, the margin of defeat could have been much worse. It was a combination of questionable pre-game preparation, failure to make proper in-game and halftime adjustments, lackluster effort, poor execution, and missed assignments.

There are only a handful of “elite” teams. And those teams excel because they have excellent coaches across-the-board who are grounded in fundamentals and who can develop and motivate players at a very high level. Unfortunately, what I witnessed last night from the Vols was not a “one-off”, but, rather, a repeat of poor performance against superior competition.

Going forward, CJH will have to make tough personnel decisions on players and coaches, without letting his personal feelings get in the way.

I apologize for the long post. Last night’s game gave me a lot to think about. As always, go Vols!

Clearly missing some dudes on this team. That was the difference last night. Gotta find a solution
Recruiting and portal.
Recruiting and portal.

Blue chip players on the roster.

That's what all the programs that field top teams every year do... it's that simple. Not easy to do, but it is straightforward what needs to be done.

Finding ways how to do it, that is where the challenge for this staff lay.

This is his second year in the program. His first as the starter. Know he faced stiff competition but 14/31 for 104 yards and a pedestrian offensive plan all season doesn't inspire a lot of confidence that more experience is going to be the answer.
Agree. He COULD be significantly better next year . . . Or not.

With better line play and a true number 1 WR, he could be good.

Maybe.

Year in year out.
Offensive line is an issue. 10 years and counting
Look like garbage on the big stage.
Opposing QB plays like a Heisman.

Year in year out, no matter who's coaching the team.SOS.
Yep and we’ve had “depth and speed” issues for 15 years. Overplayed bs excuses time and time again.
