2025 Target List

Trilly just predicted Ole Miss for Tylis.
Yeah, they were the only one he mentioned having a good relationship with the head coach. I also could see CRB and Oats telling him the “plan” is to work hard and win games. lol

I wonder if Barnes and Co will be interested in 2025 Cade Capps from Stone Memorial. He was all state as a freshman. He is currently ranked in the top 5 for TN. 6'4 guard that can score at all three levels with unlimited range. I have seen him play and he has a chance to be power 5 IMO. Cade Capps | Prep Hoops
I sure hope we end up giving this kid a serious look, and ultimately end up signing him. I've saw him play numerous times. IMO, in the final 2015 recruiting rankings, he'll end up staying a 3 star. I think that's most likely due to the district he plays in. He just isn't getting much exposure. If he hits some camps hard, we could easily see him get the bump up to a 4 star.

He'd have to put a ton of work in, but he could be a good college player for us. Definitely a redshirt his freshman year, and a 4 year guy. He'd be a fan favorite from the 1st time he got playing time an onward. You gotta love a home grown TN boy.

The dynamic in HS recruiting is very different now with the transfer portal don’t expect many 5 stars commits because those guys want to start and get minutes even if they are not ready, but as we know teams with experience win the natty mostly every year. 4 star players willing to sit and learn for a year seem to be what we are looking for.

I feel like unless the 5 star is Zion Williamson good they are not even worth taking in the transfer portal era, too many good experienced transfers to waste a scholarship on a guy wanting playing time but doesn’t have college experience so no telling how they will do against better comp.

The one and done method hasn’t worked since 2017. Seems like going after high 4 stars and developing from there is the way to go a long with utilizing the transfer portal for proven commodities.

Were Springer, Keon, and KC waste of scholarships?

“Transfer portal era” the era where it allowed athletes to transfer one time without penalty, that started in October 2018.

Then NIL became a thing in 2021 and that’s when the transfer portal era really exploded so yeah not saying we wouldn’t recruit those players it’s just that those caliber of players want playing time usually and that’s something experienced rosters that utilize the transfer portal can’t give them.

I think that right now you want a mix. A 5 star or 2 with good upperclassmen leadership works. Coach Cal’s approach of filling up rosters with 5 stars isn’t necessarily a good approach..

Every 5 star is different. I think that Barnes does a great job of being selective and not pursuing those that are going to bring problems. Like demanding minutes. Those that are all that don’t need to demand minutes, they’ll get them anyway.
