It’s a big visit weekend for Tennessee as the Vols will host one of top-rated prospects on their board, five-star
Caleb Wilson out of Atlanta. Wilson (6-foot-9, 195 pounds), the No. 5 ranked player in the On3 industry composite rankings, is a highly versatile forward with a vast array of skills.
He’s also one of the most highly sought after prospects in this class.
Wilson has already visited North Carolina, Kentucky and Central Florida in this cycle. Following this visit to Tennessee he has visit set to Georgia Tech next week.
Wilson’s recent visit to North Carolina last week was unofficial. He previously made an official visit to Chapel Hill last February.
Wilson has indicated in recent interviews that he may not sign in November, but make a commitment sometime during his senior year.
Hard information about where Wilson and his camp may be leaning is hard to come by.
He has indicated that in addition to the programs he has visited Auburn, Arkansas, Brigham Young, Oregon and USC are also programs that could receive consideration.
This one could go in a bunch of different directions and it’s compounded by the real possibility that Wilson won’t sign in November.
It’s also safe to say that NIL will be a factor here, as it is for any five-star prospect viewed a potential instant-impact performer.
Tennessee has been in this one for a long time. Assistant head coach Gregg Polinsky along with Rick Barnes have done a nice job of cultivating a relationship.
This is a highly competitive recruitment though, as you’d expect when you’re recruiting a top-five national talent, and it probably has a bunch of twists and turns before it gets to the finish line.
Tennessee will also host four-star Charlotte-area point guard
Isaiah Denis this weekend. This is the final scheduled official visit for Denis after he was at Wake Forest last weekend.
At 6-foot-5 Denis is a long point guard, who, if paired with freshman Bishop Boswell (and potentially 2025 prospect
Amari Evans), would give the Vols some extreme length in the backcourt.
In addition to Wake Forest Denis has also visited North Carolina, Ohio State and Miami.
Most seem to view the Demon Deacons as the Vols’ biggest competition. UNC just recently took a commitment from four-star point guard Derek Dixon, and while some seem to think that the Tar Heels would still like to add Denis, you have to think that helps the Vols’ chances.
Kansas, which had seemingly backed off Denis earlier in the process, circled back and made a school visit last week. The Jayhawks are late trying to get back in, but they’re a program that can pull that type of thing off, so it’s worth keeping an eye on.
We continue to think that Tennessee is good shape for Evans. He will be back in town as an unofficial visitor this weekend, which is probably another strong sign for the Vols at this stage.
Next week will be another big weekend for the staff with five-star and No. 4 overall player
Nate Ament expected on an official visit along with five-star and No. 14 overall player
Brayden Burries.
