2025 Target List

Feels like Vols have a real shot at B Burries, he would be a great replacement for C Lanier.
Never give up, Go Vols!

Yea, I agree with the concept of 4-5 freshman in this class and then adding 2-3 from the portal.

As for next years team, I agree right now it looks questionable, but so many were also questioning this years team amid all the departures and here we are with the best and most balanced team Barnes has ever put on the court at Tennessee. Fully aware there’s a long way to go, but not sure we’ve been KP Top 2 under Barnes with a Top 10 offense and defense.

Any chance that Barnes and his staff try to recruit Arenas who is the number 1 shooting guard prospect and just reclassified to the 2025 class?

Any chance Brayden Burries was visiting yesterday? This guy was sitting rt behind the bench and getting shown a love of love. Maymon and Coach V came up to him. Looked like he had family w him as well.

There’s nothing new to report on the recruiting front.

Five-star Caleb Wilson released a trimmed-down top-five this week that included Tennessee along with Kentucky, North Carolina, Central Florida, and Ohio State.

Tennessee remains in touch with Wilson, and we wouldn’t rule anything out, but that one seems to be trending elsewhere.

Nothing is going to happen anytime soon with five-star Nate Ament. That was always going to be a spring decision and he’s the kind of prospect you’re happy to wait on if that’s the case.

We feel like Tennessee knocked it out of the park with Ament and his family on their official visit in October. The feeling on all sides seemed to be that it was a good fit, but this is going to be a cutthroat recruitment among elite programs.

Tennessee is in it, and hopeful of getting Ament back on campus for an in-season unofficial, but this will be a long battle.

Chance Mallory is currently the No. 2 available point guard the the 2025 class. The 5-foot-10 Mallory, a senior at Charlottesville (VA) St. Anne’s-Belfield School is currently the No. 57 ranked player in the 2025 On3 150.
“I’m a floor general,” Mallory told On3. “I try to get my teammates involved, and have faith in my teammates. To be a floor general, I’m trying to get my team the best shot, whether that’s for me or someone else. I don’t really watch a lot of players now who are playing now. I watch a lot of, like, Isaiah Thomas and I study some old film of Sharife Cooper.”
Mallory, who committed to Virginia in September, de-committed from the Cavaliers shortly after head coach Tony Bennett announced his retirement in October.

“It was the unexpectedness of the decision for me,” Mallory said. “I just felt like the relationship I built with the Virginia staff weren’t really there after that. So I figured it was best for me to open my options.”
On3 was able to catch up with four-star Chance Mallory to discuss the latest in his recruitment.
“I took an official visit to Miami after I opened up my recruitment,” Mallory said. “I also went on visits to Virginia Tech and Virginia. Those are the only three (official visits) I’ve taken right now.”

Mallory talks Miami

“They play a pro-style offense,” Mallory said. “Like a lot of ball screens and transition offense, and they tell me they feel like I would fit in very well with what they do. Coach (Kotie) Kimball calls me all the time and he tries to get me on the phone with Coach L (Jim Larranaga) as much as he can, so that is nice.
“I’m a fast-paced guard, I like to push the pace and get in transition to get open shots. I love coming off ball screens and making reads, so I feel like I could fit their system well.”

Chance Mallory discusses Virginia Tech and Virginia

VIRGINIA TECH: “I mean, they’ve probably been my biggest recruiter for the longest time. They were my second offer I got, and they’ve been constantly calling me since. I went to Virginia Tech a week or two ago for an unofficial visit. It was nice to see the coaches again.

VIRGINIA: “It’s all the same. All the coaches are calling me and stuff like that, just trying to build relationships back.”

Upcoming Visits?

“I’m also talking with Tennessee and Maryland about setting (official) visits,” Mallory said.
TENNESSEE: “I mean, I talk with Coach (Justin) Gainey a lot, I know him very well, he’s been calling me a good amount. They have had a lot of small guards, like Zakai Zeigler, and I feel like I could jump right in with how they use those small guards. With how they play, and what they’ve done, I feel like I could fit in very quickly with them.”
MARYLAND: “I’ve had a relationship with them for a long time. So after I decommitted, they were one of the first schools to come back in and see me. Do we are back to building that relationship. I mean, I play in Baltimore a lot, so I feel like I can fit with their play style, play tough defense and play fast-paced.”

In Chance Mallory’s words

“I think that I’m going to take some visits in January and maybe in early February,” Mallory said. “I’m trying to get through this season right now, trying to get the best of my senior year and then focus on my recruitment. I’ll probably commit like late February, or early March.
“The relationships I have with the coaches is going to be big for me. That’s why I committed to UVa the first time, I felt like I had those relationships, and then I lost them.

“I’m looking for a coach that is going to trust me and the way I play and let me make mistakes for myself. I want to go to a place where I have the freedom to play, and make mistakes, and all that.”

I can’t say I like the sound of this quote. I don’t want to read too much into it either, but Barnes is fairly strict about pulling guys off the floor if they’ve made a boneheaded mistake or done something out of character in order to teach them a lesson.

Yeah playing time and running the show for PG in particular is going to be most enticing thing to recruits and portal additions for next year. I find it hard to believe Barnes would turn the keys over to freshman unless they have Kennedy Chandler level talent.

Sounds like he’d fit in great with One Cent.

Barnes is especially hard on his point guards.

frustrating sometimes how we can’t land some of these top 5 star targets. would think we could land at least one given how good we’ve been past 5-6 years.

Yeah, frustrating. I wonder what posters have for explanations about why this is.
