Tennessee hosted four-star 2025 point guard
Chance Mallory and his family on an unofficial visit on Thursday.
Mallory, who is from Charlottesville, Va., was originally committed to Virginia, but opened things up after Tony Bennett abruptly retired this fall.
Tennessee had recruited Mallory prior to his commitment, and circled back quickly after Mallory was back on the market and the Vols missed on some other targets.
He and his team are playing at Webb this weekend, so it worked out well for Tennessee to get he and his family on campus unofficially.
Elsewhere as we have said previously Tennessee remains involved with five-stars
Caleb Wilson and
Nate Ament.
Wilson recently included Tennessee in his final five, but that has been difficult to get a read on and the Vols seem to have some ground to make up.
Ament isn’t going to decide anytime soon, and while there isn’t any hard information out there about him, Tennessee is a player in our opinion.
Ament is in no rush to decide at all and likely won’t do so until after his season. This one will have a lot of twists and turns with schools like Kansas and Kentucky clamoring to get official visits and Duke very much involved.
Ament and his family took an official visit to Tennessee in October and it went well. If the Vols get him back on campus in January or February for an unofficial, that will signal that they’re definitely in the thick of it.
Lastly, some people have asked if there’s a Santiago Vescovi or Freddie Dillone out there that this staff might bring in at midterm to help bolster a roster that has only 10 healthy scholarship players (even after Cam Carr returns).
I guess you could say anything is possible, but based off conversations we’ve had, that’s not something that’s on the radar of this staff barring just a stunning surprise.
