2025 Target List

I don’t watch HS film or anything, but reading 247’s analysis of Burries he sounds sort of like a Jaden Springer type player to me (in terms of play style). Anybody who knows more can correct me
Not a bad comparison. On the bad side, Burries turns a lot of out of control moments into buckets. This won’t convey well to college ball. On the positive side, he is very naturally aggressive and also a ready/fire shooter. He can elevate and is a great natural shooter. I’d also put the odds of him landing here as much higher than 60%.

What’s your take on Mallory @Stoerner Fumbles

On the QB topic Heupel chose to ride with a guy in Joe Milton while someone named Henson Hooker backed him up, as you said he was with those guys all year and watching them workout and practice and rode with Milton, it was only an injury that saved that decision. Sometimes you have to see it happen as a coach, maybe that’s what the 2nd half against Missouri with Gainey did.
To Heupel’s credit, he stuck with Hooker and my recollection is Milton could’ve started the 2nd game after Pitt. It would’ve been easy to go back to Milton after only a game and a half for Hooker and Hooker had a couple costly turnovers against Pitt. I give Heup a lot of credit for not going back to Joe.

Not really the place for transfer portal talk, but Basilio just floated a name to close his show that you probably won't hear in the mainstream.

I know...Basilio, take it with a grain of salt.

Elyjah Freeman, 6'8 freshman at D2 LMU (Lincoln Memorial Univ.) In Harrogate, TN. Currently averaging 17.8 ppg, 8.9 rpg, 2.8 apg, 1.8 spg and shooting 58%/42%/77%. According to Tony, this kid is blowing up and Tennessee is "on him like white on rice".
I have a friend who is very connected to LMU basketball so I’ll have to ask him about that. That would be super cool!

I just don't see him with PG skills. I've really yet to see him with any distinguishable skill. It doesn't mean it can't develop, but if we bring in two more guards who are already more natural PGs than him, I doubt he sticks around to find out.

He reminds me a good bit of BJ Edwards. Same build, but I think BJ might have been a better player as a freshman, and he has since developed and is having a nice year for Andy Enfield as SMU. Boswell just feels like a tweeter to me. Not a good enough ball-handler to be a primary lead guard, and not a good enough shooter to be an off-guard. Admittedly, that is based on only 80 minutes of action, but in that time he's 2 for 10 shooting, 0-5 from 3, and has as many TOs as assists. The staff is obviously seeing more than that in practice, but he just feels like a guy that probably will find greener pastures this offseason, especially if we bring in a transfer PG and a freshman PG and his heart is set on playing that position.
His shot looks ok so hopefully he can put some work in this offseason and develop up for us.

He’s not getting that job, so not sure if he’s hoping he gets hired on the next staff or what, but had heard similar.
Supposedly, his family is close with Sanchez and they are also UVA lifelong fans, obviously. Bennett’s kid went to school with him etc. It’s pretty deep. The sentiment is he may not commit until they hire a coach. UVA has their sites set on Shaka or Odom. I can see a great hire keeping him home.

If ever there were a time to be out of control with the basketball it’s right now. Until UT lands a natural shooter like him out of high school, I’m going to continue to think not enough high school kids want to live that life. Used those words “that life” cause I heard Mashack use it when discussing the transfers on their visits. Wish more than anything kids were coached as hard as they used to be coming up.

Virginia hiring the coach who beat them as a 16 seed would be a fun story

Heard some second hand chatter with Byington but might just be more speculation than anything. Have you heard him linked seriously at all?

I’ve heard Richey and Byington too, but have no idea where it’ll go.

Could Burries being almost 2 years older and developed than everyone else be an issue when making the college transition. Dominates now since he’s so much older.

That’s my only concern.

Edit: Did he reclass down or something? He’s only 3 days younger than Boswell.
