2025 Transfer portal - players leaving the Vols

Eventually going to class will be optional..they are employées of the university.
Its funny you mention this. I was just talking with someone the other day about the mess that is CFB. We talked about when players would be declared academically ineligible and could not play. Its very possible that is still occurring but I don't seem to recall hearing about it anymore. Maybe its handled a different way now.

Come to think of it. I've heard of a lot around Bowl season every year but crickets this year. You know with the regular reporters and all these fake or wannabe like ON3 and 247 and all and I haven't seen any academic casualties mentioned.

Lots of passes thrown there..lol
I often wonder if a player that portals from a top/rising program, and lands at say a Purdue type, ever has that light bulb go off that says....oops.

Seems most all UT players that portaled out would have ended up disappointed with the outcome. I'd rather be a backup at UT than tell people I portaled to Purdue or the like.

Seems like a lot of the guys that portaled out have either went to a lesser program or have not found a landing spot at all. Jenkins and Seldon are the only losses I am somewhat disappointed in losing. Thankfully we have some dudes at those positions so it's a loss of depth pieces more than anything.

Yep, Seldon was one that seemed to have a high ceiling but he seemed to stay hurt so much. In todays athlete's where they go year round in conditioning. Its hard to sit out with an injury and then start back with conditioning and beat out a 4 star or any starter it just puts you behind the curve at a Power 4 program. You're almost better off going to lesser competition to get reps, show your goods, then transfer back up. In this new world of transfer at the drop of a hat and the ones shelling out the NIL money may pull it back the next year, on disappointing results.
Seldon was a loss that could have had a high $ mark on his NIL and the collective pulled back and decided $'s could be more valuable elsewhere.

Read most of the posts in this thread. Kinda crazy where college athletics has gone. Call it “semi pro”. Need to circle the wagons on semi pro sports and separate that from academics. Proud of my BS and MS Engineering from UT regardless of how the football and sports are working out. And I enjoy the Big Orange fans and sports too but, not the same as 1998.

More than what Bishop was hurt? They should have thrown more to Cam.

A large part of what people are disatisfied with about the player situations have emerged from the HC situations. Unimagineable salaries, with unimagineable buyouts, and no restrictions on going to greener pastures after recruiting palyers to "trust me, come play for us." Coaches are crying about the lack of of commitment that they themselves do not possess. So, the players and the powers that be that made it happen, just said screw it, if they can be in it for themselves so can we. This all started with HC's and agents the last couple decades and reached it boiling point.
College Administrators have the same problem. They hire coaches and almost all coaches either win and go to greener pastures or do not produce and are fired. This is what the Sports Industry has become. If you want to win you have to be able to play the game as it has evolved. These are the actions which can only be resolved by establishing rules and regulations. This how societies evolve. College sports are in the middle of trying to make some sense of what’s happening. It will take time and one doesn’t know what the final product will be.
