2025 Transfer portal - players leaving the Vols

But I don't think we are loosing any starter except Squirrel are we? I think Squirrel was told he would not be playing as much Boo Carter wants to play offense, and I think that's what kept him with us. So the ones transferring were not playing much or little at all. I can't blame Gaston Moore, he wants to play and no chance here unless Nico gets hurt.
But losing 6 receivers albeit non starters other than Squirrel is alot of depth gone....but Matthews leaving hurts, I'm glad our season is over because I'd say there's a divide in the team right now

Same thing happened to secondary last year.

Here is the thing in the grand scheme we were both hit nearly as hard by portal as most SEC teams in either quality or quantity.

As far as offensive production. Staes and White were the only ones that actually did anything on the feild. Squirrel, I think, cant hold up to the wear and tear as an everydown WR in the SEC at 170lbs. He he got injured almost every third reception. Staes though productive was basically TE2a at best with 2 more guys coming in.

I think the biggest losses were actually Jayson Jenkins and Jalen Smith. Those were productive rotational players. Smith was our third LB and Jenkins would have been getting more snaps. I guess both want to be full time starters?

If Matthews leaves (I feel like they will negotiate with him) that would really suck but everyone else is fairly easily replaceable. There will be more action as the playoffs wind down and those players hit the portal. I feel like thats when the dominoes start falling. CJH is never first in the pile in the portal. Never has been and every year he pulls out multiple gems.

Gaining Kitselman for another year is terrific. I saw that Seldon is going to Virginia Tech. Think the coaching staff already has a read on some quality early enrollees after bowl practice? Talk about opportunity for playing time for the incoming class.

Do we have a bowl game to practice for?

So far, the players who left have gone to Virginia Tech, Vandy, Miss State, Maryland, & App State. They didn't move up in program potential, and weren't putting themselves in better chances of winning conference or national championships. The teams at the top that we are now competing with aren't taking these guys.

Remember last year when the Bammer fire sale was on and they lost elite players to contending schools? That's not happening here, at least yet.

There seems to be something going on. Wish we knew. A divide? Coaches. Hmmm

This is just part of college sports. Teams will use the both sides of the portal to make improvements. Players will use both sides to improve their personal situations. Salary caps and new contractual strategies will evolve. If you want to enjoy amateur sports for what they are traditionally known for, well welcome to High School.

Harrison I could see leaving with Thomas getting healthy and coming back. And hopefully Boo...ugh

Jenkins makes absolutely no sense with all the seniors graduating.
What do you mean it doesn’t make sense? Don’t you get it. Has nothing to do with playing time anymore. It’s all about the bag. You need to change your way of thinking

We sdded roughly 26 new scholarship recruits for next season. We are only losing something like 13 to the NFL or graduation.

So another 13 need to find new schools if they want to keep playing football on scholarship.

Well duh

But he no doubt would make money with a bigger role here next year, with a coach that gets guys to the league. Guess he thinks he could he the guy somewhere. Maybe in the G5 somewhere.

Bishop is a walk on. I saw that and couldn't believe it. I guess a way around the system is pay them and let some walk on till a spot opens up. It always seems like we have a numbers problem while other teams are out signing 17 transfers.

That seems to be yet another loop hole. They count total scholarships, but not total players. It appears that a team can give an athlete money for school with NIL dollars and still call them a walk on.

It might make sense to pick up portal guys not signed in a few weeks and give PWO opportunities to build depth. Is it true that the SEC declined to expand rosters to 105 but other conferences are doing that? That is absurd if true.

I truly hate this portal AND the money that has become the driving force in CFB today. The sport is just dying, which I knew would happen, and the players are now just free agents with yearly contracts. They need to curb this as much as possible so I think they should go back to making them sit out a year if they transfer schools.

About 40-50% will not come out of the portal and will be in a world of hurt for the money they owe on rent and stuff cause they gave up what they did have to go into the portal upon bad advice or bad decisions.

Eventually going to class will be optional..they are employées of the university.

A large part of what people are disatisfied with about the player situations have emerged from the HC situations. Unimagineable salaries, with unimagineable buyouts, and no restrictions on going to greener pastures after recruiting palyers to "trust me, come play for us." Coaches are crying about the lack of of commitment that they themselves do not possess. So, the players and the powers that be that made it happen, just said screw it, if they can be in it for themselves so can we. This all started with HC's and agents the last couple decades and reached it boiling point.

As you can plainly see, our #1 basketball team is totally F’d this year. Why? We lost 4 of 5 starters off last year’s team, and 5 of the top 8 in minutes played. Hopeless situation. May as well shut down the program.
