I would think after a while, coaches are going to move on. I would think there have to be some uncommitted 2022 recruits or some top transfers in the portal that would love to play at Tennessee or Auburn. My goodness, how much money is he seeking in NIL?
I actually wouldn’t be shocked if this is the case now. If none of these colleges are giving him the deal he envisions, the professional route makes a lot sense. What a wild recruitment.[/QUOTE
Being offered a spot on an Ignite team is pretty compelling. Again, he said all along that he was going to look at every option. He sure is.
The case they make is that it develops him faster against NBA talent and he gets to the second contract sooner. You’re right that the Spyre offer is better than Ignite money.Sharife Cooper was the highest paid player in the G League last year on a little over $460k a year and that was a two way contract with the Hawks. Surely UT, Auburn, and even USC are offering more than that?
Jalen Green would probably be a better comparison two years ago but he still only made about $500k for his one season.

I think you’re right. I wasn’t ready for that at 18. Sadly, parents and agents can’t get there eye off the payday of the second contract.I’m relieved to hear that. I know there was some thinking after Jalen Green that there would be a wave of elite recruits taking that route but it just seems like a lonely road for an 18 year old. Especially now that you can make more guaranteed (and legitimate) money from a year in college.

Latest I’ve heard is that Auburn/Pearl were unable to match the specifics of NIL, but promised they would. He is thinking hard about G league/Ignite. I’d still say we are 1a or 1b in his top choices if he doesn’t go Ignite. He still talks to our coaches. Tang recruited him at Baylor, and is close with him and his (agent) mentor and former coaches. Tang is also one of the best recruiters in the country. That’s a sad program, but he’s landing great recruits.
Meal at Western Sizzler!
Have to say this again. Kids that go and play for the ignite team do not live the life that the players in the G League do. They’re well taken care of. They’re brought in and basically get the NBA life while only playing 20 games at most before they’re drafted. Now if Phillips doesn’t show well with Ignite. Then he will have to rough it with a G League team.I’m relieved to hear that.
