'22 SC SF Julian Phillips (Tennessee commit)

I think the staff pretty tight-lipped right now given the roller coaster ride of the last few weeks. Again, they talked to him and family for two hours last night answering every possible question about development, school, etc. It went “as well as it could possibly go” according to my friend, and when I asked if the coaches felt better or worse about it than a week ago, he said “much better”. I think his parents are worn out on the bs of handlers and genuinely trust Barnes. Anything can happen, but we’re in a good spot.
It does make so much sense, considering he just happened to set his commitment date the day after he had that conversation with the staff. I want to believe!

Well, I guess we just have to hope the family really does what to end the circus and send their son to arguably the most stable situation of any of the programs. I have a feeling thought that delaying the commitment for 8 days is to give Auburn time to match the NIL deal, otherwise I wonder why not just commit this week.
Yes, I’m sure all better offers are still on the table until pen hits paper.

This recruitment is probably the weirdest one I have ever kept up with. People saying he is an Auburn lock and others saying he is coming here and then it keeps going back and forth. This one is funky for sure

I agree but with some Auburn insiders thinking he's all Tennessee or G-League, reference to screen shot in previous post, now I am starting to think Auburn must be loosing some ground. I don't think he's going to Auburn. Go Vols!

I can't imagine the parents/family trusting any coach or program more than Rick and Tennessee. When you spend a few minutes with Rick it doesn't take long to realize he's a straight shooting trustworthy man and what family wouldn't want their son playing in that type of program/coach. And...to me...the opposite can be said for Bruce. Enjoyed him while he was here but "trustworthy" is just not a word I'd most often associate with Bruce. Hopefully family wins out in the end!

We see by the number of transfers out that families often want guaranteed playing time and prima Donna treatment for their kids. I see it as early as middle school. The majority of parents think their kid is the best player on the team and that if they aren't playing big minutes it's a vendetta by the coach, in conspiracy with another parent. The question becomes, what kind of parents are the Phillips.

You aren't seeing it until middle school? You're blessed.

I believe the Chandler Family would give a ringing endorsement to CRB. It wouldn't surprise me if they hadn't spoken. If it was my kid I know I would. Still it's where the kid wants to play and feels more comfortable.

I agree. Chandler family is a good solid family. I don't think we've seen a ton of "bad" fits that Rick has even recruited so there's not an avalanche of issues. Clearly, we did had one this year that felt maybe he could do better elsewhere and most people can see it for what it is a mile away. But I still think most well raised kids like Kennedy understand how valuable being under Rick and his staff can be. And if they want to leave...Rick will bid them a farewell and genuinely wish them well.

And yet they went with Wade the first time around? Something tells me "trust" isn't a biggie in this one.
