US Diesel Shortage News: Diesel shortage across the US? Reports say only 25 days of supply left - The Economic Times

Fuel provider Mansfield Energy is now requesting a 72-hour notice for deliveries in order to obtain fuel and freight "since conditions are rapidly devolving," according to a statement to clients. According to Mansfield, who added that Tennessee is "facing particularly significant issues," fuel costs are running 30-80 cents higher than the market average in the most constrained locations.

I'm not sure this is 100% true or at least not misleading to a point. He said we currently had a 25 day supply but that doesn't mean in 25 days wellrun out. I'm not sure how many days we typically have in reserve. If the supply was cut off we'd run out in 25 days but we're constantly resupplying. Also, I think if that was the case, pricing would be $20/gal. It's been fairly steady I think.
Oh I don’t know how “many days”. I had seen reports that Diesel reserves were at their lowest levels in ‘X’ years.

There may be shortages in certain areas because we have dumb shipping policies--namely the Jones Act.

Check back with me when people in Congress seriously talk about reinstating the ban on exporting refined oil products, and I'll believe we have a actual "crisis."

Will you answer when it comes time to “check back with you”?

I understand the reason diesel is higher now but before Obama became president, diesel was cheaper than gas. We will get hosed no matter what we do. It’d be nice if we were producing as much oil as we was 2 years ago. Maybe we wouldn’t be in this mess.

Refined oil products were not banned from export, only crude. That ban was lifted in 2015.

Diesel went higher than gas because Europe (who uses a lot of diesel) closed most of their refineries in the late 90s early 2000s and our diesel exports rose significantly.

Never made any but no bio diesel isn't hard to make. I haven't tried it myself but supposedly you can tune a diesel to burn used cooking oil.
Have you tried it using your grannies Crisco or Tallow?

You're right. But my point stands. If we weren't exporting oil/oil products, the domestic price would be cheaper (given the same supply).

No it wouldn't. We don't have the infrastructure in place to transport and refine the amount of oil we can pull out of the ground.
