From an article when they lifted the export ban. Isn't this exactly what happened? We have a refinery shortage now in the NE, which is where there is a diesel shortage.

How a massive refinery shortage is contributing to high gas prices

US refining capacity falls to lowest mark in 8 years amid record prices: EIA

And of course when the largest refinery on the east coast shutters it's going to impact that area.

I am afraid we have crossed the bridge and can never return. Businesses cannot complete capital projects on the whims on the wind that change every 4-8 years.
Going to get worse and it is going to decimate the economic growth of our nation and personal finances.
Biggest dumb move by any power in world history. America will never be the same. The Feds are going to have to spend trillions in subsidies they do not have. Epic disaster.

What about refinery capacity?
Capital Projects that take years to implement.
Take the XL..the barriers were put in place for decades.
What kind of investment decision did that turn out to be?

How can that be? I've been told that the current president is the exclusive reason for the high gas prices!?

I understand the reason diesel is higher now but before Obama became president, diesel was cheaper than gas. We will get hosed no matter what we do. It’d be nice if we were producing as much oil as we was 2 years ago. Maybe we wouldn’t be in this mess.
Or how about this... how about we do two things. Drop Russian sanctions and build more domestic refineries?

Or...

How about "we" increase Russian sanctions so you and your motherland can choke on the fat c**k of freedom?

Yes. Even if the biggest portions of the green new deal never pass, companies cannot afford to invest large amounts on projects that may be forcibly scrapped even before they start up if socialists are in charge of all 3 branches of government in DC. We need an energy protection act that is very hard to repeal.

There is just something wrong with this article's title. Before Biden, we didn't have to have a crappy economy in order to have fuel?

Apparently there were no new refineries built in the US since the 70s, and a recent article said some had closed and others are reducing their workload. Makes you think that telling an industry there is no future and trying to fund long range and cost intensive commercial projects when investment markets and industry are focused on short term profits is going to be the end of us.

Investment markets were developed to provide the capital and sanity for industry and agriculture to work. Now they are gambling institutions ... dreams of short term plunder - not long term capital intensive projects funded with excessive amounts of retirement funds that have no place else to go. That's a really bad mix, and karma is not a nice lady. Not to worry investors like Buffett are going to enjoy your retirement.
