#3 back at Daytona

I am stunned to see that NASCAR has decided to put the #3 back on the track with Austin Dillon. I was never a Dale fan while he was racing, but I love him for what he brought o NASCAR. When an accident like that happens on the track and takes the life of one of the greatest of all-time, I would have liked to seen the # retired. I appreciate the way the VOLS retired the #'s of the WWII veterans at Neyland. That shows class and appreciation. I wish NASCAR would have done the same. I will always remember the real #3 not this imitation.

NASCAR didn't decide to do anything with the 3. It is Childerss, who has the rights to the #3 and decided to put it back on the track. Hard for NASCAR to retire #s when there's only 100 choices out there(00-99). Once you retire one, there will be a call for others. I wasn't a fan of Earnhardt, so I could care less either way.

ironic that jr had a car no one could touch, a car that was faster without a drafting partner than cars drafting for the 400 and now the #3 is on the pole for its first race since sr's death. How surprising of nascar. Does don king work in nascar now?

Childress said after dales accident that NO ONE would EVER get the #3, but I guess his spoiled ass grandson doesn't count. I can only hope he gets caught up in the crash Danica will cause and be off the track early so I don't have to see it out there.

I think it's wrong that they are using the #3 car. Dale is possibly the greatest racer ever and easily top 3. He probably did more for NASCAR than any other driver. The fact that a rookie can come in and take that number is beyond sad! If any one on the track has the right to drive the 3, it's Dale Jr..

I bet you have no idea, like most ignorant Dale Sr fans, that Richard Childress drove the car first.

You think he did more for the sport than Richard Petty?

That's irrelevant to the point! The argument that Dale didn't use the number first is pointless! Richard Childress never won a race. Did Childress ever became one of the most popular drivers in the sport? No.

For reference, I'm a Braves fan and every Braves fan knows #10 is Chipper Jones. Not any of the other players to wear that number before him.

Dale is and always will be the one true #3

And since it's such a pathetic argument, I'll let you try again.

Racing in unlike any other sport. Numbers will never be retired.

And if it weren't for RC, Sr would have never been in the 3
