3 Football players arrested

I may be in the minority on this one - but I see no lesson to be learned here except that the police can be a bunch of jerks.

Go take a look at the brightest and most ambitious students on campus and they have likely participated in dozens of evenings like this. It's called college.

Kudos to the players for not being out at the bars where they would draw additional attention and potential problems. They tried to keep it in-house and the police decided to be asshats.

While the KPD were busting a bunch of 20 year olds for drinking booze in a private residence, hundreds of drunk drivers were on the roads in Knoxville causing far more danger for random citizens.

I hope Butch comes out and makes it known that he supports his players, but I'm sure we'll get some standard coach speak on representing the university and handling internally blah blah blah

Obviously you've never lived in an apartment where folks were having a loud house party. They were stupid for trying to pull that off in the first place. THE COPS ARE ALWAYS GONNA GET CALLED!!!!

90% of cops rather be doing anything other than having to go mess with a bunch of twenty year olds.

Also, if the cops weren't having to run around busting up house parties where a bunch of kids were playing loud music and drinking under age they could be out there looking for DUI's.

^Good post! Of course it has no place here! :banghead2:

We actually caught a bit of a break, with the news of this story.

According to various sports news outlets, the only thing that happened in the entire universe, is that a Mizzou player came out as gay!

What courage to come out as gay in 2014...:whistling:

Would hate to be the team that may have to cut him someday, you are guaranteed to end up in court! JMO

I love those young men so agree and remember in most college towns the University has a working relationship with the police department but not Knoxville. Seems the police are too big for their britches and have been for years, basically inept. Maybe they should visit Tallahassee.

Please tell me this is sarcasm.

Obviously you didn't go to UT if you think the cops are always called for a party in an apartment complex here.

Yup, and most complexes close in to campus are full of students who party they own selves and are reluctant to call the cops, unless it's gotten totally out of hand. Been there, (having the party) and done that (had it get totally out of hand wit cops called), an wore the tee shirt (covered in puke).

Not all the time. But when they do, the M.O. is usually the same. They tell you to quiet down, you do and no one goes to jail. Make them come back a second time and all bets are off.

FWIW, this the reason that when I lived in K-town, it was WAY out off Maryville Pike, at the end of a dead end road... lol.

The rap group NWA. They were kinda sorta important in music history.

Right and I know what the abbreviation is for also. Kind of surprised it would get through the censor here as the reference is a derogatory term for the race of the perps. Doesn't offend me, just surprised.

Kinda sorta important in music history! I suppose if you're a fan of Dr. Dre and Ice Cube.

I can truly see AJ just putting his hand on the officer's shoulder trying to help his friend and getting thrown to the ground because I've seen it happen. Going after an officer and shoving him in a drunken/high/rampage is not the same as putting your hand on an officers shoulder to ask him to chill out and be taken to the ground. If he "attacked" the cop, it would be assault, not resisting.

But someone was annoyed and called or they would have been out catching bad guys. The way the story goes someone called them more than once. Go find that person or persons and kick there arse for doing it and messing up the party. I assume this is the way it works in Knoxville as you say it should.

Still sounds to me that the KCSO hadn't made headlines in a while and some cops wanted to get into the news so they picked a party they knew they could get in the news over.

exactly what I think. word spread there were UT players, so freaking 12 cars came and they hoped for bigger things, but wrote drinking citations instead when there was nothing. Should've gone to a highschool party and filed more charges.

The KCSD probly were the ones that didn't get invited to parties back in the day and thought itd be sweet revenge to bust some jocks..

Being at a party and police show up:
101 - Do not touch the police
102 - Yes sir. No sir. Please and thank you sir.
103 - That's not my bottle (weed, pills, etc.) sir.

I realize that but making the point that one can get arrested for resisting arrest because a cop with an ego wants to do so.

If you touch a police officer in any way in a confrontational situation, it's probably going to go badly for you.

Not saying it's right or wrong, just saying it is.

Between my professional obligations and personal situations, I have probably gotten to be somewhere between close acquaintances and decent friends with at least 10-12 police officers in the last 20 years. A few of them did or still do work for the KCSO.

There's not a single one of them that I believe would have this attitude or intent. In fact, one of the KCSO guys I know is among the most orange-blooded there is.

Further, explain to me exactly how arresting UT football players endears the department to the good residents of East Tennessee? I would think that more than not would just as soon they didn't. Wouldn't you?

again, I realize that. just pointing out that fighting against an officer during arrest is a little different than being taken down when not actually being aggressive, as far as intent and personal character.
