3 Football players arrested

I was a leader in my fraternity and drank. I've been involved in harmless yet irresponsible situations. It's college. The kids want to have fun on a Saturday night. If the fight happened because AJ was protecting a girl from assault then I have no problem with a lack of transparency for his football punishment. He shouldn't have a punishment. This is the first incident with AJ and he's a senior, of age, in the offseason and on a Saturday.

These charges will probably be dismissed anyway.

I have been in the same situations myself. The difference is we are not a team leader and starting LB for the University of TN. They should be held to a higher standard -- and I'm sure Butch feels the same way. He's not Barry Switzer or Jimmy Johnson. I'm not privy to the details, but he was arrested for resisting arrest -- not assault for fighting or defending someone, etc.

His age only strengthens how he should have enough common sense, he's no longer an 18 year old freshman, in regards to actions around and when addressing a LEO.

My point is it was a stupid arrest that should have been avoided by someone you expect to be in a leadership position. That said, I'm sure it will be dismissed and he'll run till he vomits all over Neyland.

Don't know what the charges are but its interesting we want to dismiss drunkenness and fighting as "boys will be boys" yet CBP gets caught in a lie and its time to ban him from the program for life....and here's the one that will fire some up...Alcohol will DESTORY more lives than anything a football player, coach, and any other person can do...Trust me...I speak from experience...ITS THE WORST PROBLEM WE FACE IN OUR NATION AND WE WHISTLE BY THE GRAVEYARD.... Wait until you have an alcoholic child.....Its Not just my opinion...its just the plain hard truth...

Alcohol is only a problem if the individual allows it to control them instead of them controlling it.

Arrested for underage consumption of alcohol? Oh they went to a party? In college?

Oh ok...

Looks like a couple of other guys on that 24 hour arrest report that we may want to see if they have any eligibility left.

We don't agree, or care for each other much, but exactly. This is the exact thing my father said to me when I turned 21. It can be used for many situations as well I have found.

Resisting arrest is different than "defending a girl" even if that was what started it all off.

I'd get the whole team out, even the EE, and make them run til the puke and make them run some more. BUT...I would have these 3 sitting off to the side watching the team run. IMO that'll get the point across for the future. These kids need to know that when the police are involved they need to respect them. Another problem with kids today no respect for authority. I know teachers that have to deal with parents on a daily basis that blame them, and not their precious kids. My dad wouldn't take my word over a teachers at all. Respecting authority was without a doubt a part of my upbringing. None of this "I want to be ur friend" crap.

I actually like you, Oskie. Sure, we disagree and throw punches but you make the board interesting to me. I do respect that you stick to your guns despite being wrong. Lol

Btw, I agree with your post.

Amsler. He partied his ass off the night before the Sugar Bowl and had the game of his career. Still remember him hurdling a Va defender and the whole crowd in unison went "Ohhhh!"

Shoot - Greg Amsler LIVED in the Last Lap. Had his own corner every Friday when the Vols were not on the road.

I believe he was also with some guys one night that knocked on a door and asked for a guy. The guy comes out and a fight started and the guy ended up stabbed. Amsler I don't believe was involved in the fight or stabbing but was there.

More dumps or screens were run to Greg Amsler for positive yards in just a few games than we have combined to rb's since he left campus.
That's what it feels like after watching his highlights.

I am shocked! We finally agree on something ... I understand college students drink and other things but the real issue, if what is being reported is accurate, is a lack of respect for authority. It looks like the police gave them at least two "breaks" before being called back and then finally taking action. From what I know so far, I applaud the police for what they did.

On the other hand, we have two current players and one former player who apparently have no respect for neighbors or authority. What to do here? Your post is correct, the whole team should pay for the mistakes of the few. Every player is accountable as a team player.

We will see how CBJ handles this ... ??? However, all the facts need to be gathered before the "punishment" is taken.

These are 18 to 21 year old college students hitting a bump on the road of life in the midst of becoming adults.

No, if the facts are as initially reported, this is more than a little drinking ... Not showing appropriate respect to authority cannot be tolerated, period! I see some character lessons here that need to be learned apparently the hard way. Young adults need to learn there are consequences associated with poor choices. Not teaching them this is a disservice to the players and team as a whole. Again, this appears to be more than a "bump in the road" incident!

Ha!! U calling me stubborn bud?? Ha!! I try to keep it interesting cause otherwise I think many would be pretty bored. Not saying I don't really think what I say, but at this pt that's become my "shtick.". I guess it helps keep things interesting for me at least. Glad to hear others agree even though yall are all wrong. If yall weren't I wouldn't have anything to say. Ha!!

Good to hear we finally got something not to argue about.
