I understand and agree but again being charged with RESISTING ARREST and apparently not obeying the officers instructions is a much more serious issue than partying and a little alcohol.

This is akin to Pearl when some say all it was is a barbecue. No it was the fact that he LIED about it, told parents and players to lie about it, and this is the SEDOND time he made these mistakes.

For Pearl, as much as I enjoyed his coaching, he has proven he lacks integrity, plain and simple.

For these kids, you are correct they are young but the lesson that there are consequences to poor decisions needs to be implemented here. Hopefully, they will learn so they will not have integrity and character issues later in life like Pearl.

resisting arrest can be from anything to holding your hands up and asking what is going on and what did I do, not bending your arm backwards fast enough, or to full blown not letting them get you down and cuff you.

For all we know, AJ smarted off and got slapped with "resisting arrest." I've seen it happen with my own eyes. We weren't there so we don't know. Doesn't sound like he pushed a cop or anything so the definition of resisting can be pretty broad. I've smarted off a few times myself when "authorities" are just being douchebags. And I get along just fine in life without being a total sheep.

This is no big deal to me. Kids will be kids. Some of you guys have either been Puritans all your lives or believe in the unending authority of the PD.

I smarted off a few times and got nothing. Lucky. Then, the only time I was put in the car, I was a sober 17 yr old walking in krystal with a sack full. Officer comes up and tells others to leave. My friend and I weren't with them. Then he tells us to gtfu and out. I said, "I didn't do anything and am going to eat my food". Boom. Up, out of my seat, right arm behind my back, cuffed, and in the car in 30 seconds.

Could be or couldn't be we simply don't know at this point, I agree. I am just saying, on the surface, resisting arrest is more serious than doing things kids do. It appears there is more to the story or it would not have even got to the point of "resisting arrest."

We don't agree, or care for each other much, but exactly. This is the exact thing my father said to me when I turned 21. It can be used for many situations as well I have found.

Resisting arrest is different than "defending a girl" even if that was what started it all off.

I'd get the whole team out, even the EE, and make them run til the puke and make them run some more. BUT...I would have these 3 sitting off to the side watching the team run. IMO that'll get the point across for the future. These kids need to know that when the police are involved they need to respect them. Another problem with kids today no respect for authority. I know teachers that have to deal with parents on a daily basis that blame them, and not their precious kids. My dad wouldn't take my word over a teachers at all. Respecting authority was without a doubt a part of my upbringing. None of this "I want to be ur friend" crap.

I didn't know that I had another brother. We had the same parents!

this kinda stuff gets brushed under the rug in other football towns doesn't it? Are the top cops in Knoxville from Nashville or Gainsville or somewhere?

On a brighter note....at least A J didn't hoarse collar tackle a cop and get an assaulting an officer charge.

THIS is the right response IMO, as it will build teamwork as well as tamp down on future incidents - but I do want my son to be able to question authority. Too many sheep in America today. Authority is not a God-given right but bestowed by the people - and it must be earned. We are America today because our (or at least mine) forefathers told the ruling authority at the time, King George, that he had lost his right to rule them because of his actions. That said, there should always be respect for the authority of the position, even if the person in it is unworthy of it.

Resisting gives an officer license to be a dcik. When my son was sixteen he got charged with resisting for hiding in a closet when a house party was raided. You never know.

Anyone thinking the entire team should be punished for the actions of a few are going down the wrong path with that line of thinking.

From people I know that went to this party and from other players, AJ and Sapp both pushed cops and Danny O'Brien came outside to stop them. When he came outside, the police asked to see his ID and he handed them his fake and got busted with impersonation and underage drinking.
