3 Keys to this Season

Your UConn guest is the one that brought it up, for some weird reason.

EDIT: Speaking of Bruce Pearl, he's announcing Memphis Madness next Friday. The Forum will be rocking.

Yeah, I knew that. Could turn out really well for him there. He turned the job down once, might be offered to him again come March.

He'd go over like gang busters in Memphis is Pastner were to ever take a job elsewhere, which is why I suspect he's doing the MM spot.

Seriously? He's closer to looking for a job, then accepting another one.

Unfortunately, I do agree that Memphis and Pearl would be a perfect match.

Anything can happen, I guess. But this looks to be the year he breaks through to the Sweet 16 and beyond.

Georgetown thought that last year and ran into a red hot FGCU. In a better conference this year, Memphis could take some lumps during conference play. End up with a 5/6 seed, then a run could be a little more difficult.

What year doesn't Pastner look like he's going to break the Sweet 16? Every year he has a stacked roster.

Stacked, but not necessarily experienced. This year it's both. That, plus the fact that he'll probably be playing a top 10 schedule means a top 4 seed is likely.

The signs are there that haven't been in years past.

The new conference will only be a benefit to Memphis.

Anything can happen, but this year there aren't the excuses (schedule, experience, pieces to the puzzle, depth, etc.) that have been thrown around. Results are a must.

Team cohesiveness with his teams has never been there.

True. Yet to be seen if that will be an issue this season.

Black and Barton are gone. Shaq, Jackson both seem to have bought in.

Dixon, Pellom and Geron Johnson are all vocal senior leaders.

I'm optimistic that the usual drama that has accompanied the 2009 recruiting class is done.

We'll see

Memphis is use to playing a tough OOC and then being able to cruise though their conference until March. They have NEVER had to get it up game in and game out after Jan, so no, the new and better conference could be a HUGE factor. They really have no idea what so ever what conference play is all about.

You've seen who's in the AAC right? Half of them are the same hapless teams that Memphis has been dominating for almost a decade.

Add two games against UConn and two games against UL, and the rest are close to what the C-USA was the last few years.

LOL weird????

Is Memphis in the state of Tenn??? Are both teams Top 25 preseason??? Is there a lil bad blood on occasion???

My intent is not to hijack the thread haha!

Basically an attempt to compare two Top 25 teams with regional significance in 2013-14. :)

Lets talk college hoops! The greatest sport in the world.

My blood is boiling as we approach what may be 1 heck of a hoops season nationally and in the state of Tennessee.

It's all good, UConn. The native Vol fans get restless about mentions of Memphis because of the way that the series has been skewed lately. They bring up Memphis a lot on this board, but then get mad that Memphis is being discussed.

You think UConn has a legit shot at winning the AAC outright this season?

Jackson, Johnson, Crawford and Dixon > Smith, Jones, Ware and Hancock.

Smith may be the best guard in the AAC this season (possibly in the nation), but Memphis' 4 are the best group of guards collectively. Not hard to see.

Take Ware out and put Rozier in there. Rozier is going to give Jones a run for his money at the PG spot. According to fans I've talked to.

I think the NCAA decision on the eligibility of Kentan Facey is a very important 1. Our front court consists of Olander (Sr.) who Ollie has put into professional counseling to overcome his demons, Brimah (Fr.) who is rawer then a rare steak at Sparks Steak House in Manhattan, Phil Nolan (So.) who most UConn fans believe will start but has limited ability on the offensive end and whose sole existence and value will come from his ability to rebound (yet to be proven in real time) and the before mentioned up in the air status of Facey. Without Facey I believe a 3rd place finish is inevitable behind Ville and Memphis (with both the Bearcats and SMU right on their backs),

I do like UConn's back court especially Napier (IMO as clutch as any player in college hoops). Boatright mentally is a bit behind the 8 ball but he possess the talent to wreck havoc on any given night (his consistency IMO may not be there.) Boat is planning on leaving after this year but will not be NBA ready. He is to focused on the NBA.

IF Daniels and Giffey produce above and beyond expectations. For instance Daniels is 1st team All-American (not likely but Daniels will breakout) and Giffey averages double figures and 6 boards a game coupled with an eligible Facey then UConn could contend for the AAC title.

The prob is Memphis and Ville are both National Championship contenders on paper. UConn will need Shabazz to pull a Kemba to contend for a title. Objectively I don't see that happening.

1) Ville
2) Memphis
3) UConn

If King emerges as a rebounding machine and/or Nichols/Pellom/Shaq are consistent up front Memphis can win the AAC. I think Iverson will emerge late in the season as a PTP'er.

It doesn't help that a particular Memphis troll continues to be unable to shut the hell up about Memphis anytime it is brought up, then ruins said thread.

Restless lmao? You're a MEMPHIS fan on this site. You're a joke man, and so is your coach. He'll choke this year just like he always does. Go on somewhere. I'm glad you can admit that your team went from one weak conference to another.

Oh c'mon man, AAC>SEC any day of the week, at least this season.
