I can't be the only one startled by all the three star takes at this point. What's goin on?

Says the guy who chose to use a 2-star recruit as his avi. C'mon man, are you serious! :loco:

Ryan Karl turned out to be a 4-year contributor and started his last two years for us. What's your point?

Possibly best call out of year

Wow I did not expect to be called a troll or douche for wanting the best players to win. You guys are harsh and almost like a cult the way you gang up on people. These guys NEED bumps in ratings or it is a mental barrier for me and many others. Just something else I have to worry about during off season.

Mental barrier? That seems to be the sole issue and one that you need to address. I think most of VN can handle it.

I don't think Dooley's problem was evaluating talent. He just couldn't get the talent he evaluated. He didn't work hard enough or seem to care. Totally different.

Dooley took 3*s and everyone said "it's because they fit the system." Now it's because he couldn't evaluate the talent. It's understandable that a person who lived through Dooley would be worried by seeing what, on the surface, appears to be similar recruiting takes somewhat early in the process.

Don't remember many saying that. Dooley took what he could to get bodies and depth in. Hard to recruit to a system when u change it halfway through.

If you believe your last sentence, then we can't help you. Not. Even. Close. Dooley took guys because he was afraid to get involved with big time prospects and didn't have the personality to win. Sorry if you can't see the difference.

How many of you were saying this before his second season, though?

I'm sure that there were some, but I'd put a lot of money on most taking the same type of recruiting found at the end of his tenure and spinning it in a positive light because it's "his job".

Don't call me out, though, as I don't feel this way. I can simply see how someone would be worried because they saw garbage recruiting for years that went under the guise of "they're high character system guys"

My guess is that he's saying that Butch CAN get those guys, so why is he taking what appears to be what Dooley would have taken

dooley filled out his recruiting classes with easy recruits who were passed over by other programs because of red flags such as academics, conduct, and character issues...the ones he didn't have to work for. There was an obvious lack of due diligence on many of his recruits. In many ways, same can be said of kiffen's class.

you CANNOT do anything about the stars anyway !!!! you CAN watch the coaches evaluate, develop, motivate and execute.....and you are just left to hope for the best, you can always burn a sofa later.....

Only an idiot would compare butchs recruiting to dooleys. Dooley never sniffed too 10 class. Butch had top 5 last year and this class is 7 yet you think this is similar to Dooley? Typical FF poster trying to stir pot

I'm glad that you know everything about me. I'm glad that you cannot understand that I'm simply trying to relate what he said in a way that will be more understandable, so he doesn't get his ass chewed out.

Stars are assigned based on HS Sophs and Jrs playing FB. These kids haven't played their senior year when stars are assigned. If they don't participate at Rivals or Scout's events, they get downgraded. Lighten up and leave it to the coaches, not some bugger picking sports reporter.

must be no moon out tonight, stars are all some people see. What was our Freshman All-American Cam Sutton rated coming out of high school, 3 stars after UT bump? Get over the stars and trust Butch he knows better than the recruiting services.

I don't think the OP is a troll just for being alarmed but the point I would make is that it is indeed early in the process and a lot will change between now and signing day and our list of signees will be different than this commitment list. It was about this time last year that Jerome Dews committed and there were similar freak outs over taking a commitment from a 2* player in June. Somebody, I think POA, said that he doubted Dews would sign with or ever play a down for Tennessee and he was right...

Glad you cannot understand that 5th and 7 th ranked class is not the same as a Dooley barely top 25 class or not even top 25. No similarity in recruiting at all. When 5 star Khalil commits our 7th class goes up even up even higher.

We lead for 4 star beasts Jefferson, Ordway, Phillips, and Richmond.

Zero comparison.

I understand its not your position, but it isn't even close. Butch signed a consensus top 7 class his first full year and signed a couple of 5 stars. He won battles against high level schools. He has already done that for 2015 as well. Dooley had that initial class that was good with a little help from EE's and then fell badly. It isn't even close of a comparison. Just don't see how people can even go there.

Thanks bro. I just have higher expectations then most on here, expectations that UT should and can surpass. I want 4 and 5 stars.

On the surface, it does not look great, but I agree with most opinions on here: the stars will grow on these guys.

On another note, a lot of people obviously get off on putting people down. It makes them feel bigger, or whatever. Don't take it personally. It is their problem.

Just because some people have learned that the offer list is more important than the star rating, doesn't make them geniuses or anything - just people without lives, perhaps.

Personally, I prefer a few new threads once in a while, over going into huge threads where most of the talk is just back and forth p*ssing contests, but thats just me.
