I'm glad that you know everything about me. I'm glad that you cannot understand that I'm simply trying to relate what he said in a way that will be more understandable, so he doesn't get his ass chewed out.

Maybe he deserves to get his ass chewed out for starting such a dumb thread.

I have a total of 7 or 8 posts on VN and I even know not to post something this stupid.

position and the automatic assumption that the position equates to more knowledge than people whose entire job is evaluation
It's a fallacy to believe these people whose entire job to evaluate can actually do it.

Rivals for instance hasn't even evaluated Dormady but just stuck a 2* on him for the hell of it. Most Rivals evaluators can't even pick the great players out on field unless someone points them out to them. I know you're trying to point out the mistake that it shouldn't be assumed that all coaches can evaluate talent. But on the other side a lot of these evaluators suck at their job and half the time don't even have a basis for their ratings other than a recruits offer list.

Butch is a better evaluator then 247 and rivals.

Randy Shannon admitted that while coaching The U, he used Rivals recruiting analyst way to much instead of his on talent evaluation. Look where that got him!

For example last yrs #1 NFL draft pick CBJ recruited to Central Michigan! He was a 2*!

Wake up and let the coach do his job!

and yet 90%+ of the information in this forum comes from info gathered and evaluated at those recruiting services

y'all know so much, why haven't you started a recruiting service

Butch has stated players are recruited on their ability to fit the system. The players who fit and succeed in a particular system may not be the ones who receive the high accolades from recruiting services. Iirc, back in their Tom Osborn days, Nebraska was hardly ever ranked in the top 10 in recruiting yet were consistently in the top 5 at the end of the season. I'd much rather have players who are successful in Butch's system than 4 & 5* players who have NFL potential. If they can be both that's great, but Butch has a profile he is looking for and he will follow that rather than a recruiting services opinion.

I hate when the FF gets brought into the RF.

By the way, former 3-star Johnny Manziel says "Hello".

I hate when people who post on the RF somehow think they are superior to people that post on the FF.

I offer this thread as proof they are not. The op asked a simple question and was bashed and insulted for asking it for about 7 out of 8 of the first pages. This is hardly superior behavior.

Also for anyone who thinks the RF is superior to anybody, I would direct you to the Torrence Gibson thread.

That thread is a monument to stupidity, much like this one is turning out to be.

Not everyone follows recruiting as closely as some do on here and the ONLY thing they have to go on is the * rating. That's why they come here and ask questions about it. That DOES NOT require that they be insulted for asking.

Lol @ the stupidity in this thread. Our "3 stars" won't be 3 stars when's it's all said and done. Hell some of our four stars will be 5's by the time it's over. We have committed the number one receiver in this class. In a couple weeks the number one DT in this class will commit. The number one DT QB is having his birthday party in Knoxville for god's sake. The "text message" group is a surprisingly very possible reality. Chill out. Alls well

I disagree. I want Vols to go on to bigger and better things. I don't want them to wash out after 1 year. There's a reason you don't hear "Boise State University" over and over again on Sunday Night Football.

The QB didn't attend Rivals camp that probably has a lot to do with his low rating with them. I don't know of one Long snapper who was listed as a 5* recruit lol. If the op is b!tching about CBJ recruiting he must have been a pleasure to be around in the Dooley days

I thought Dooley was #1 in his category.

Something to consider. If folks are being honest, I'd guess our head coach Butch Jones would have been a mid level 3* when the coaching board was chocked full of names. To date, that one has turned out alright.

Ole Butch is a 3* millionaire. Yeah Buddy! :loco:

That's the good thing about forums like this. We don't have to agree on everything in order to have discussion. While I do enjoy seeing former vols in the league, I'll be far more impressed when the current VFL's are competing for SEC and National Championships and it won't bother me at all if not a single one ends up in the NFL. Don't get me wrong, I fully expect we'll put some in the league, but my pride in this program will not take a hit if they don't.

If they do well here and can't get a job after the fact, their time in college is for naught. That means that the coaching staff forced them to work incredibly hard to not be prepared for any job in the field they want to be in. That's failure, in my opinion.

Glad Butch is not a star gazer. We are at or near the top of a lot of 5* recruits but he is taking commitments from 3* guys. Why? Because he and his staff see something that we don't. He's not settling!! He's picking who he wants. Their star status will change by the end of their senior year.

Stars are useless. They just try to evaluate and are usually off. Successful coaches do their own evaluations through camps and the film room. The guys on rivals and such are only sports writers. When do sports writers not suck?

This is a good statement. We won't really be able to judge 2014 and 2015 until 2018 and 2019. There appears to be a consensus from the many who post here that spend a considerable amount of time combing through all the information about recruits that CBJ and Staff are ahead of power curve. We've already seen how effective Butch's recruiting was in the super short amount of time that he had to put together/keep together the Class of 2013.

Nowadays recruiting is 24/7 and offers are being made years in advance of high school graduation. I don't recall UT being ahead this ahead of the game before. But it is a must these days and it's a sign of the times. Evaluate early and offer early or you'll be left with nothing but the pickovers.

Personally, I'm elated that the Vol coaching staff can evaluate 5*/4* talent that are still 3* and give them the love they need to get on the VFL train. With wins, the road becomes easier with the 5*/4*. But it still takes the 3* diamonds in the rough that become tomorrows NFL players to win championships.
