It is a pilot program, a study to see if it is feasible. There is no VMT at all in the bill.Guess the morons didn't read this part Infrastructure Package Includes Vehicle Mileage Tax Program
Some conservative needs to learn the lesson that the Democrats learned a long time ago. Say one thing when you’re running for office, then do whatever you want when you get into office. Whatever they end up passing needs to be gutted and then repealed immediately upon the socialists losing office. I agree with your premise that it is politically impossible to end social programs once they are implemented. Someone amongst the conservative base will have to step up and take one for the team (and country). They could be a one-term president and still go down as one of the greatest presidents in American history.Whatever the dollar amount that is attached to the final compromise bill, the REAL total will be much much larger.
Even Erin Burnett on her show on CNN tonight said that everyone in Washington knows the real total costs of these bills is much much larger. Said whatever is in the bill and listed as Temporary, will end up being Permanent. Will never be removed.

The far left’s frustration with moderate Sen. Kyrsten Sinema’s (D-AZ) unwillingness to go along with President Biden’s “Build Back Better” agenda took a turn for the ugly this weekend when several left-wing activists stalked and harassed the senator, going so far as to follow her into the restroom.
In the video that has since gone viral, activists with LUCHA Arizona confronted Sinema outside her classroom where she teaches at Arizona State University (ASU), eventually following her into the restroom and continuously harassing her outside a bathroom stall.

Wow he really believes in Climate ChangeI thought it was interesting that Joe Manchin lives on a "houseboat" on the Potomac that showed up on several news sites while he is being shamed into not voting for a multi-trillion bill that would crater his states' economy. I found this little fact sheet article about it, he paid a mere $200k and immediately insured it for $700k, sound legit?
