*****4-star QB Jake Merklinger commits to Tennessee

As others posted this is great ! But UGA didn’t actually give him a committable offer yet. He’s their backup plan and we wanted him right now. Reminds me of when they wanted Jasper Sanks…. And we took some dude named Jamal Lewis. Hopefully this works out like that.
Saw Jamal at a UT game about seven years ago. Talked to him briefly. He was walking around completely unrecognized which I thought was a little baffling.

I mean in all honesty… the kid will never play here. Waste of a scholly we can use on a backer

Waste of a scholly? LMAO. No scholarship QB behind Nico after next season would be the result. And if you're going to sign one, then it should be the best player possible. You can make the argument that Merk may never play (injury, transfer, etc.) but it's no damn way it's a wasted scholarship; that's freaking hilarious.

That's honestly a pretty ridiculous take. He "looks" more like Hooker in his videos. He runs the ball well and has decent speed. He throws the ball well and has great deep touch. He's smart and places the ball well.

He could very easily be "the guy" instead of Nico just like Hooker was over Milton.

Both guys have physical talent. Now it comes down to what's between their ears and how the do when the lights come on. At a minimum he provides depth if Nico becomes the starter in '24. If he moves on after that then mission accomplished.

I would be interested in seeing that "argument" since both guys are highly talented. We do not know how either will adapt to CFB. Both could adapt really well... and JM still be better. When watching this kid's highlights... he made me think of Hooker. They're just highlights but he was impressive.

Dude is a top 10 QB in the country...not cherry picking 1 service...he is a composite top 10 QB in the 330 million legal persons United States of America.

To come crap on a top10 national player at ANY POSITION in his announcement thread makes you a complete moron, a troll, not a Tennessee fan...or ALL OF THE ABOVE.

Find a new team or new site man. Tennessee and their top10 players just arent good enough for you!!

Love to see a photo and tax return from you. Bet you arent top 10 in your own neighborhood even...at ANYTHING except saying stupid sheit. Good grief man. You must be a Biden? Right? Nobody else fails this much...ever. Or has absolutely zero self awareness or common sense when speaking.

Nice to meet ya, Hunter.

You freaking Muppet.

Each to their own I guess. Think I will go with Coach on scholly allocation EVERY TIME and honestly discount the intelligence of anyone outside the industry that makes absolute statements about a player's value add to a program before their senior year.

Only one scholly per position. Got it. All this time I was an idiot thinking we needed depth and competition to make positions better. Guess that kind of thinking is why I’m not a coach. Sure glad we didn’t have that mentality with a no good transfer like Hooker.

Scholly allocation matters. I would rather have another arion carter to develop than a hs qb under a 3 year starter. Kids leave in spring. You use that that space to sign a transfer like Hendon or Joe who has experience and doesn’t need time to bring actual competition..

You make 0 sense. You’re basing this whole argument on an opinion that Nico will light it up and be the starter. You have 0 evidence this will happen. Remember a guy by the name of Bailey that was supposed to be our next 5 star savior? How’d that work? It doesn’t always play out. Why would we not want a few talented QBs to see who looks the best on the field?

So you think with a total of 2 schollie QB's we should take an 0Fer on them this year? Or that we should only take a project that is more likely to not have a portal shot? Never know when an ACL gets involved. Just a stupid take any way you cut it.
