I'm bored waiting for another hoops game. #5 was harder than I thought. Beating Pitt would deserve a spot on here.

1. NCAA vs. OSU, 2010 - first Elite 8 in school history
2. At Memphis, Feb. 2008 - first #1 ranking in school history (albeit a short one), massive hype.
3. NIT vs. Villanova, 2010 - first championship in any form, went from losing to a DII school a few wks earlier to beating an Elite 8-caliber team in MSG.
4. Home vs. Kansas, Jan. 2010 - beat the #1 team in the country after suspensions, arrests.
5. At Florida, 2006 - swept the eventual NCAA champs.

I don't know about "best" wins, but I enjoyed the win over Florida his first year more than the somewhat meaningless Villanova win.

Not in any particular order:

Win on the road at Texas-1st year
Win over Kansas last year to beat #1
Win over Memphis on the road to be #1
Win over Ohio State to reach the elite 8
Win over Kentucky any time is big

Although that Nova win was huge right now, I dont think you can ever consider a win in November one of the bests in a coach's era. Otherwise, I think the list is spot on. I would include UK in Nova's spot.

Except it's the first time UT has won a tournament in a decade.

First Texas win has to be up there. I agree with this list. I will let someone else pick the Kentucky win. They are all big. I would go for a top six, because you have to include one of the Florida wins as well.

Preseason tournaments are overhyped. The win over Nova was a good win but you really only played one quality opponent in the entire tourney. Like I said, good win, but nowhere close to a conference win over UK in January-February.

There's some good ones. Simply naming 5 I would have to go with:

1)OSU to make 8
2)Memphis to take top spot
3)Florida at Knoxville when they were undefeated
4)Kansas last year
5)Texas blowout with Tucker/Abrams/Aldridge

Honorable Mention(Big wins/exciting games)
1)Florida home game in 2007-2008(the best marketed game Mike Hamilton has ever done)
2)Texas 2006-2007
3)Xavier 2007-2008
4)Villanova 2010-2011(first preseason tournament championship in 10 years)
5)Winthrop 2005-2006
6)OSU 2006-2007(The most proud I've been of a Pearl team in a losing effort)
7)Arkansas 2007-2008(SEC Tournament loss went back and forth the entire way)
8)Purdue 2009-2010(Tough loss on early, but hard fought game)
9)Georgetown 2008-2009(The only memorable game from that season/Tatum went off)
10)2005-2006 at Florida(Watson busts Noah's lip)

The win over 17-0 Fla in Knoxville first year (when Fla went on to win a NC) was big as well. This started Pearl's dominance over Billy boy.

Not for a team that needed the experience of winning a tournament on a big stage. That can come in handy at the SECT.

except that it's perhaps the closest experience to actually playing in the NCAA tourney. Neutral, unfamiliar court, new opponent, 2 games in 3 days. And it was against a powerhouse program in a game we weren't supposed to win. We moved up 11 spots after that win, right?

It was a great win. The biggest thing that win did for the team was deflection. Deflection in a good way by forcing the media to talk about beating a top-10 team as opposed to the Pearl situation as a distraction. Its a great win and will be a big impact on the season but its still not as big as winning a big time conference game.

Not really in order, but:

Beating OSU to make the Elite 8 (First ever, and helped make up for the choke few years back)

Beating Memphis on the road to become number 1 (may not have been the most important considering the way the season ended, but that may have been the game that gave people the most joy at the time)

Destroying Texas in Pearls first year (from 14-17 to a great start and annihilating a team that was ranked number 2 not long before that)

Beating Kansas last year (because they were number 1, we were shorthanded, and it was days after the extremely disappointing incident that saw Tyler Smith kicked off and 3 guys suspended)

Beating Nova to win the preseason NIT (first tournament of any kind that UT had won in a decade I believe, and it's nice to see given the recent ncaa distractions)

How about Texas at Austin in 2005? That kind of got the Pearl era started.

I think that win actually put Tennessee on the map for title contenders on a yearly basis as a national program. That was a huge game and we had a loaded team then.

Beating Texas with Kevin Durant was one of my favorites.

That previous year's victory over TX might be more impressive. If memory serves correct, TX just got manhandled by Duke and were expected to take their frustrations out on a team that people perceived as bad. That got the Pearl Era off to a running start.

Any win over a Calipari coached team is my favorite...the most important one was last year to advance to the Elite 8

That Texas win is definitely top 5, and probably bigger than the Kansas game. It announced the return of Tennessee to the national scene
