5 best wins in the Pearl Era

The most exciting non NCAA tourney game was the Texas game vs. Durant. What a game that was.

Pretty good list by the OP IMO.....but the Texas game is another one I'd consider....and I love how we've dominated Florida the last few years

Not to highjack the thread or anything, but it seems most are in agreeance on the biggest wins. What about losses?

The drumming by USC last year was an ugly, inexcusable loss. 08'-09' UK at home when Meaks went for over 50 (I think that's the right year) was another gross one to watch. 06' Sweet 16 loss to Wichita St. hurt pretty bad too. They were WAY underrated but we should have won.

No particular order on those just thought I would throw them out. For the record, while Indy was embarassing it doesn't make the short or long list for me. Didn't matter.

My list:

#1. Ohio State 2007 Sweet Sixteen. That game was in the bag and somehow he managed to give it away.

#2. @USC 2009. They were mediocre at best and absolutely embarrassed UTK

#3. @#14 Vandy 2008. The only reason I listed this one is simply because of all the hype for beating #1 Memphis and becoming the #1 team in the nation then getting beat the first day. It wasnt embarrassing but definitely a big loss. The media didnt even have time to write many articles.

This one didn't bother me so much, I think most fans saw the writing on the wall. We had just reeled off 9 straight wins and were playing the last of 3 games in 6 days. I kinda saw that one coming.

It wasnt a bad loss by any means and it was played on one full days rest after playing the biggest game in recent history of either program at the time. All Im saying is that that loss didnt even give yall a chance to enjoy being #1 and get all the nice columns and praise for it. Instead, since the Vandy loss was so sudden, all the praise turned to indifference.

Every reasonable Vol fan knew we were going to lose that game. If it was on a Thursday/Saturday, better chance to win. But three days after getting the first #1 ranking in school history? Tough to come back.

I like homefry20 as a poster, but why is he commentating on which wins were best for us and which losses were worst for us?

I have a perspective too. It wasnt inflammatory I was just offering an opinion from someone who is not a Vol fan. I wasnt trying to start any holy wars.

That Texas win is definitely top 5, and probably bigger than the Kansas game. It announced the return of Tennessee to the national scene

It's a tough call. I definitely considered that one, but I just thought the upside of beating the #1 team when we were so depleted and on the brink of falling apart was greater than that win at Texas.

I was honestly just curious to know :)

Got to disagree with this. Villanova was a top 10 team in MSG for a title.

Absolutely. Pearl had no hardware to that point in his tenure. As regular season wins go, that may well have been the biggest.

The win over Florida in 2008 to clinch the outright SEC Title is bigger than any of the other Florida wins.

UT Memphis game was big game. I beg to differ that is was the "biggest game in recent history" for the Tigers. These were bigger:

2007 Georgetown win (double digit win against Top 4 team on national TV and current attendance record for FEF).
2007 OSU loss E8
2007 Texas A&M win S16
2006 UCLA loss E8
2005 UCLA win
2005 Duke loss

Random, but I always think of the Louisville game with Darius's free throws.

And the "choke that never was" was pretty relevant as well.

Not in any particular order:

Win on the road at Texas-1st year
Win over Kansas last year to beat #1
Win over Memphis on the road to be #1
Win over Ohio State to reach the elite 8
Win over Kentucky any time is big

This. That texas win put us on the map.

Swap the memphis and kansas win and that's my exact list.

seriously guys, win against Florida in 2008 was huge because of what it meant and nobody is even paying attention to it. Definitely bigger than the other Florida wins, bigger than the Kansas win, etc.
