5 Names That Are Outside The Box

There is an extremely reliable source on Volquest, a gentleman that I know personally, who has now stated that Gruden has decided to go the NFL route. I guess he did his research and made his decision. I honestly expect him to be in San Diego next year.

Laughable that he would even consider UT

Any name you select at this point has less than a 50% chance of being correct. On his post game radio show, Bobby Scott had a different opnion on Gruden. Gruden has an interest in the Tennessee job, and has even been quoted as saying that. Bobby gave us about a 10% chance of hiring Gruden, but that's a lot better than many people were thinking. It's going to boil down to money and whether the UT Athletic Department is willing to do something they have never done before - step up and pay the big money for a big hire.

Gruden will have the same job next year that he has this year.

Financially, it makes total sense. Look at Alabama. They stepped up and made Saban the top paid head coach in college football. Look at their attendance record since. They are basically 100% capacity since he's been hired. We lost at least $1 million in revenue in the Troy game in empty seats. Home game revenue adds up if you get a big name coach.

I read the list, and threw up in my mouth a little.

I know the list is "outside the box", but surely we can do better.

I don't subscribe to the Gruden or keep Dooley thoughts, but I don't subscribe to the anybody but Dooley club either.

This is possibly the most critical football hire in UT history.
We MUST get it right this time!

Anybody think that Butch Jones would be a good hire? He seems to have Cincinatti headed in the right direction.

Can I add my name to the list. Like Dooley I have no coaching skills but I am willing to take a $2 million a year job with a $5 million buyout if I get fired.

Okay... if you'll let me be DC for $800K a year (plus a generous expense account, of course)! And I would want a generous buyout clause, as well.

How is having them regress since Brian Kelly left the right direction? He is a decent big east coach, but nothing more.

Reach hires (about 10% chance of happening):

pick one of many so-called up and comers coaching small ball now

Reality hires, part two (about 30% chance of happening--sad to say):
Dooley (he wins out and keeps his job another year)

I know this.. If they set on their hands, lose another game.. Then let Auburn or Arkansas get the jump on them, have to settle for someone other than their 1 or 2 choice. Then they need clean the whole deal out.. Goodbye Jimmy Cheek, goodbye Hart, you both stink...

Del Rio.
Interesting.
Failed Pro HC, but so were Saban and Spurrier.
Defensive minded.
His name might recruit.
Have to think some more about that one.

I actually appreciate threads like this because CDD was probably not on anyone's short list 3 years ago.

With that being said, Stoops would be my number one choice, including Gruden, but I just don't see any reason why he would leave Oklahoma where he makes a lot of $$$ already and has the best team in the conference to come to the toughest league in the country to coach a team that will take 3-5 years to rebuild. Call me crazy, but I just don't see it happening. However, why not throw $6 million his way and make him say no, although timing would be an issue since OK will be playing in a BCS bowl more than likely.

Other coaches on list, might as well give CDD another year if those are the choices.
