6 straight #1 classes. At what point should investigations start?

I think most P5 schools do it, including UT. But you dont find it strange that Bama lands #1 classes even after losing bowl games?

Urban Meyer has won a lot at OSU. He even won the NC and failed to sign the top class the next year. I agree win and they will come. But at some point that has to apply to every other team that wins and it just doesnt.

Recruiting base has a ton to do with it IMO. While watching ESPNU today, they said the SE had "infinitely" more top 300 kids than an other region in the country (can't remember the exact number they said); which isn't an unknown fact. The talent pool within 4 hrs of Tuscaloosa is something Urban and OSU can only dream about. That, coupled with their success, makes recruiting so much easier.

Don't worry guys, with every passing year the Saban era at Alabuba gets closer and closer to coming to an end. Whether he takes an NFL job someday, or just retires eventually it will end.....and I will be damn glad when it happens!

When you keep winning and keep sending players to the pros, this is what happens. Calipari is the same way

I think Bama probably cheats. Probably no more than most power 5 schools. They haven't been called out by Michigan and Brett Bielema the way Ol Miss and Florida were. So their cheating can't be that egregious. I think, more than any other factor, it is Saban's history of putting talent in the NFL. Second biggest factor is the frequency with which they win a national title and sec title. Third biggest factor is probably being in a talent rich state. The fourth factor is probably the facilities and miscellaneous perks associated with Alabama football. Somewhere far down the list of factors for successful recruiting classes lies improper benefits. It might make a difference, but probably not a big enough difference to keep Alabama from dominating in recruiting anyway.

They signed 6 of the 142 recruits that were from Alabama. Now I'll give you four of the top five signed with Bama, but when it comes to talent, they were #7 on the list of overall talent, even getting beat out by Mississippi and Louisiana.

I'm not as worried about Bama as I am Ole Miss. There is no way with potential sanctions against their program they should have landed that kind of class.

How are you defining "overall talent?" And why on Earth would you be more worried about Hugh Freeze than Nick Saban?

I should have said "overall number that were signed" instead of talent. California, Georgia, Texas, Florida, Louisiana and Mississippi all had more HS players signed than Alabama according to 24/7.

Alabama can easily defend their position as it's been outlined in the thread already. NFL talent, championships, etc. Ole Miss has nothing to fall back on when it comes to recruiting. Both programs are dirty (hell, all are to some extent) but in the case of Alabama they would be harder to track down.

I just think Freeze is way dirtier than most. And I've thought that for a long time.

Oh, I completely agree with that. I was reading it differently.

Bama's recruiting strategy is diabolically ingenious and impossible for any other school to replicate as long as Saban is there. Every year, in every class, the #1 priority is stocking elite OL, DL, and LB talent. They sign 2-3 of the top 5 players at these position groups in every class. EVERY CLASS!

Of course, they sign 5 star talent at every other position too. But OL, DL, and LB comes first.

This is how they dominate the line of scrimmage and make every team they play one dimensional by shutting down the run.

What's to investigate?

As much as I loathe Bama and every #1 class feels like another gut punch, it seems obvious; Coaching, tradition, recent titles and early round NFL draft picks.

All the above will just make our upset of them at Neyland this upcoming season that much sweeter!!! If we manage to pull off 2 W's (another in the SEC champ game), then hopefully soon folks will start questioning our consecutive #1 classes!

I agree with you. However, I don't think it will be an upset. Tennessee will have the better team. I look at Tennessee's team and where is Bama going to be better.

They are not cheating anymore or less then we are. You know how you get 6 number one classes in a row? Win a Natty every 3 years and put a ton of people in the NFL.

It Tennessee were to win, make no mistake, it would be a significant upset.

You forgot the blue font.

LOL. No. For the first time in a long time the gumps will not have the best defense in the league. Tennessee will. Alabama will not be able to line and run over Tennessee. When that happens game over. Because the bama qb will be running for his life. Just like he did this year when bama got in passing downs.

Alabama will also not have the best running game in the league next year. That will be Tennessee again with Dobbs and Hurd and a more experienced offensive line.

Tennessee will have the best punt and kick returners in the league. Tennessee will have the punter in the league.

I know it is hard for a gump to believe, but I wouldn't show up in Knoxville thinking bama is going to win.

It is called a changing of the guard.

Really? Its that simple? Dont think so. I can understand getting the number one class after winnng the NC. But they signed the top class after getting torched by OU and after losing to OSU. Sorry, I call shenanigans. I know nothing will ever come of it but I do believe they are cheating a little better than everyone else. We all know Saban has cronies in the NCAA.

When will NCAA investigate bama?

When the NCAA prez is not saban's former AD at LSU.

If they investigated bama, saban could say, well, I did these same things while you were boss, and you didn't mind.

What's baffling is that Alabama is stacked so deep with talent I don't know how they're convincing these recruits to sit on a bench for 2 years before they even see the field.

First of all, the NCAA and it's money train (I.E. T.V.) need the university of alasalami and it's fan bases' money. Secondly, if you can sit on the bench two out of 3-4 years and still get drafted highly because you have that name next to it...why would you risk the injury?

Guess what kind of players they are at the next level because of it? B.U.S.T.S. ... Lazy.

Good grief! All Bama players are busts in the NFL? That's about as dumb as "alasalami"!

Sometimes you read for the commentary and valid points people bring to the table.

Other times you read for the pure comedy.

Think the latter for this one.
